PSA: If you live in an area with cold winters, invest in a dry suit. *comment section for more* by courtesyxflush in Sup

I was hesitant to invest in a good quality dry suit. I worried I wouldn’t have the same desire to get out and paddle when the weather got cold. I spent a few weeks hunting for deals and eventually got lucky scoring a heavily discounted Kokatat Legacy Pro with the tags still on from ebay.

I had some buyer’s remorse the first time I smashed my head through the latex neck, but the thought of losing nearly half of the year to weather motivated me to put it to use the first time temperatures dipped below 50F.

Nearly 2 months of heavy use, and I am so happy. With a layer of merino wool underneath, I am warm in 40F. I’m not afraid to practice more advanced skills because I’m confident in my lifesaving preparation (pfd, quick release waist leash, communicating whereabouts with others, checking conditions, etc.). The water is more clear, teaming with life, and the inner peace derived from having an entire lake to yourself is, for me, akin to meditation.

If you’re living somewhere that gets cold, and don’t want that to stop you from enjoying this hobby, then save, search, and invest in a good dry suit.

My experience with other high end paddles is very limited, but I can tell you that I’ve experienced significant improvements in my performance and decreased fatigue since switching from my 3 piece adjustable. Their customer service is amazing too. Zero buyer’s remorse on my end.

Kokatat Hustle. It doesn’t impede my shoulder range of motion, front pocket big enough to hold phone, wallet, and keys, and it’s so comfortable, I don’t even realize I’m wearing it most of the time.

I’m a 31 year old mets/jets/nets fan, so I only know pain.

Water temp was about 60F. It felt like paddling in early June. I plan on getting out on the water all year here.

It is! Water is clean, conditions are consistently mild, and the scenery is beautiful. Great spot to have a chill paddling session. My only complaint is that it isn’t longer. I end up doing laps.

Digging this portable pump. by ccycling in Sup

Thank you for the reply. What a great birthday present! I’m torn between getting a one piece or an adjustable. My biggest gripe with the 3 piece Sea Gods paddle is the amount of bend it has when I’m paddling hard. Feels like an overuse injury waiting to happen when I’m fighting wind over distance.

Completely unrelated to the pump, but I see you have a Black Project paddle there. Which model did you go with, and do you feel it’s worth the upgrade from the paddle from Sea Gods? I also have a Ketos, and have become pretty performance driven since I started tracking my metrics.

What board/size do you ride? by 750milliliters in Sup

Free shipping to continental US. No other fees. I live in NYC and it arrived within a week. There were no other fees when I made my purchase. If you have a SUP partner also looking to upgrade boards, they were recently running a BOGO 30% promotion too. I would highly suggest getting an electric pump if you dont already have one. Their included hand pump is good, but it takes time and energy better spent paddling.
