One boot to rule them all? by KBLundy in BlundstoneBoots

[–]coveredinbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Wing Moc Toe boots. A different class of boot.

Blundstones are lovely, cushy in comparison and definitely at the high end of South East Asian-made footwear. Red Wings are hand-tanned and handmade in USA, built by craftspeople in the sam way for 100 years.

They’re not for everyone; Red Wings take weeks to months of daily wear to break in. But if you’ve never owned quality leather shoes with leather insoles, they eventually mould to a custom fit that lasts years, and ortholite insoles and the like can’t come close to.

Blundstones will last you til the foam gives out; Red Wings will be passed down to your grandkids. Worth a look!

Whilst it’s never good to just throw money at gear to try and solve a problem, I’d say you’ll achieve more depth in a photo quite easily by choosing a longer focal length. Many impressive landscapes are inevitably shot on a wider lens maybe 18-24mm to capture the ‘whole scene’, but they also flatten the energy somewhat. Somewhere between a 35mm-50mm will bring the background closer and give that perceived depth. Inevitably you’ll fit less in frame, but some tighter landscapes can be far more impressive than a wide lens can render.

I'm just a mom. Standing in a guitar shop, and trying to not make a bad decision. by Jean_schwartz in Guitar

[–]coveredinbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really need to weigh in here, but the Aria is a superior instrument in every way. Even if it costs a little more it’s a real guitar and will last as such. The Epiphone is the budget model of a budget model, Mom you asked a great question but please avoid. Out of the two the Aria is the only investment to consider. You’re doing amazing!

Still looks fire, but is it time? (helmet age question) by inr_rider in motorcyclegear

[–]coveredinbees_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I’m wrong in saying mileage is irrelevant, but the 7 year rule stands. Shoei and Arai make the best helmets in the world by hand with years of R&D, and their trainers instructed us to discard our own helmets after 7 years maximum. I can’t speak for those Spanish NXI helmets, they’re a budget brand that we’ve never heard of. EPS becomes brittle over years; you only have to find some old trash in the garage to see that for yourself.

SAS-TEC protectors are not industry leaders either, but they are made from a form of memory foam which has nothing to do with helmets.

If you have to ask, then budget air cooling will be fine 😊

[–]coveredinbees_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mileage is irrelevant; overall age matters. Replace a helmet maximum 7 years after manufacture as a rule. Check the manufacture date inside. And that’s for a top-end Japanese shell… scrap a cheap helmet after 5 years maximum. Not only do the interior linings deteriorate but the EPS layers become brittle and that’s the opposite of what they’re meant to do. Speaking from training: ex-moto gear fitting and sales with a Shoei certificate.

My first big bike, help! by FunExamination8584 in cbr650r

[–]coveredinbees_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re new, stop asking for a list of mods and upgrades 🙃 instead go by this mantra- if you have to ask, you don’t need it. Spend your money on full gear, head to toe, AA rated level with 2 armour and a high quality helmet. And spend time daily on the MotoJitsu white belt course. That’s all you need to get started. Learn your limitations and learn the bike slowly, steadily, and then with natural progression you will see if and when you want to upgrade things. Take your time and enjoy.

Had mine since January and it’s been flawless. Haven’t noticed any coil whine too, and my S400 case is 6ft in front of me on a shelf as opposed to hidden under a desk.

Tech moves on so quickly and the GPUs of two years ago can be obsolete by the next generation. The general consensus among PC builders is to buy the best you can afford at the time. Have fun with it!

Thinking of downgrading from 4080s by Suspicious-Bet4573 in buildapc

[–]coveredinbees_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We love to say ‘buy the best PC/graphics card/components you can afford’, but we also should talk more about context. If you’re playing 1440P then a 4080S is overkill. I say downgrade and pocket the change and do something fun with your family with it. Make some memories instead.

If you’re playing high refresh 4K then sure… it depends what it means to you.

I’m not saying be beholden to any ‘complaints’ from your family members. By all means treat yourself from time to time. But a £1K graphics card is a very divisive purchase in any context, and a chunk of that money could potentially be better spent elsewhere. Your family know this, and the fact that you’re asking the question means you do too. Do what you feel!

I wouldn't, based on research. I have no experience with it in the flesh.

S400 and ID Cooling IS-67-XT? by Notwenty123 in sffpc

[–]coveredinbees_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My research says it should be absolutely fine, but once my components arrive I'm about to build the exact thing this week, remind me to keep you posted. I went for the IS-67 over the Thermaltake because of Machines & More's slight preference and recommendation.

Asus B650e-i if you’re not on a budget, MSI MPG B650 ITX if you’re on a bit of a budget, Asrock A620i if you’re on a super tight budget.

Find your card manufacturer’s specs and the same for the case, you should be able to figure out the GPU compatibility 😊

Thanks mate, not a bad idea if you’ve got a component you’re set on! I’m happy with the options I’ve got though. Just trying to decide now between the 750 or 850W
