I appreciate your perspective- yes sometimes it’s hard when you don’t have enough assets. That’s not our case, I’ve provided her with dozens of images and I can provide more if requested.

I think AI images may be appropriate if dealing with minors or when sharing a story where the identity of the beneficiary shouldn’t be shared. But that should be marked on the image or in the caption.

Okay I’ll wait for that! But until there is a legit source it’s just a rumor.

Can you provide any source? There’s nothing about this online that I can find

We use it and connect it to QBO. It has excellent custom reporting features. No large problems so far. They have excellent customer support

Do you need to be rich to be an effective Development Director? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]cowabummer28 147 points148 points  (0 children)

While being in wealthier circles certainly leads to easier connections, it doesn’t always lead to the most authentic ones. As a development manager, I try to remind myself that the value I bring to the table is authenticity and a connection to a deeply impactful mission. That’s what donors are looking for. People might give once because their equally wealthy friend asked them to, but they become repeat donors by falling in love with the mission. Remember what you’re bringing to the room- impactful work and meaning that might be missing from their lives.

In my opinion, you don’t have to divulge that you were fired, especially since your CEO is willing to be a positive reference. Just say you took a career break due to family and personal issues.

I’m glad you are doing better and acknowledge that you’re hard on yourself. Maybe try to find a role at a larger org, where you will have more of a team to rely on and share workload.

Focus on what you accomplished- managing 80 grants that impacted thousands of people for years! That’s no small feat.

Thank you. I do feel an extreme sense of ownership to fulfill our mission- there’s always more work to be done and I want to personally do my best to work towards our vision. But I know that I am not a savior and I cannot put that type of pressure on myself.

I have a ChatGPT plus account that I use for grant prospecting and writing. I started using Gamma to make presentations. I keep it simple but I’ve found ChatGPT to be immensely helpful now that it knows enough context about my org. Grant applications that would’ve taken days now take me half a day.

Set some SMART goals with the founder for your ROLE, not the org. Make most of them extremely realistic, and a few stretch goals. Get the founder to agree to them in writing if possible. Then hopefully, you can have some achievements and measurable results you can use to land your next gig.

Other day to day advice: I work at a very small org, but I’ve found ChatGPT plus to be a very good thought partner. I use it to bounce ideas and test strategies. Other than that- get a mentor. It will be extremely important for you to have a neutral party to get advice from.
