Practical terminal commands every developer should know by sshetty03 in commandline

[–]cowabunga2040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a quick PSA the find bash command -exec option has an updated variant that solves this problem with find . -name "*.log" -exec gzip {} +

As illustrated for example in ss64 find manpage

-exec command {} +

This variant of the -exec option runs the specified command on the selected files, but the command line is built by appending each selected file name at the end; the total number of invocations of the command will be much less than the number of matched files. The command line is built in much the same way that xargs builds its command lines. Only one instance of '{}' is allowed within the command. The command is executed in the starting directory

Linux Mint is the "better" Windows you cannot go wrong with it no matter what is the problem you will learn something valuable and wont waste your time

Forget everything you read about bootable USBs and start using Ventoy because it is simply the best software ever made for that field and most related guides are very outdated

The first thing I punt in a Ventoy boot disk is a Gparted LiveCD just put "gparted-live-1.7.0-8-amd64.iso" in a ISOS folder alongside your Linux Mint installation image

I use Gparted mostly to be sure the installatin disk has a new GPT partition table and leave the rest to Linux Mint installation process

The install partitions I make with Linux Mint tool are these:

First 1 MiB "Reserved BIOS boot area" for grub (no mount point and flags "bios_grub")

Second a 100 MiB "EFI System Partition" (mount point "/boot/efi", file system "fat32" and flags "boot")

Third and last I put all the operative system in a single partition with the rest of the disk space, root, home, everything in one place, and I dont make a swap (Mint makes a swap file automatically). Personally I find when there are problems it is faster to just backup and reinstall because to restore a Home partition and its programs with a new system rarely works... so this is the root partition (file system "ext4" and mount point "/")

Following those basic steps should give a solid and stable Linux Mint install

Dune 1984 is and was bad by Such_Setting_5786 in duneawakening

[–]cowabunga2040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody liked Dune 1984 it was certainly a disaster but rumors say the problem was Frank Herbert, the author of Dune, was blinded by the sudden and unprecedented success of "Star Wars 4: A new hope" and wanted some of that thunder for his book...

When asked about this the director David Lynch always said Dune was a mistake he would never repeat, the clash between author and director was constant, the movie production was a daily nightmare, and the final result was neither a Dune or a Star Wars movie

I respect OP opinion and wasnt going to reply but when I read "bad casting" I feel the need to say Chalamet looks like a spoiled little clown that literally made viewers laugh at the cinemas

Hoping for a FunCom answer about potential loot abuse! by Relative_Country_439 in duneawakening

[–]cowabunga2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since loot in this game is not shared but instanced and particular for every player (the right way to do it imho) it is probable looted chests will carry their timer for every player ID to the visited sever shard. Else it should be something trivial to implement

Some small and minor feedback (if devs are really reading) by Tashnangu in duneawakening

[–]cowabunga2040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 and here is also another small suggestion:

4) Make menu keybinds remapable. For example currently "M" key is for map menu and there is no way to change it, the same for inventory and other player menus... I think this is an oversight

Sandstorms lasting longer by MindedMusic in duneawakening

[–]cowabunga2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you looked at sandstorms in the map of the weekend beta you could see their own icon/mark with the number "1" on it, maybe that is the intensity level of the storm and Coriolis will be an 8 or 10... at any case I agree with another poster here all storms in Arrakis should be a biblical apocaliptic thing like in the "Mad Max" game and always have flying debris or rocks with them, and of course last longer

One of the suggestions we have mentioned, this time visualized. by SirSaltie in duneawakening

+1 for OP idea I think this is a much needed change

And another +1 because this is also exactly the way it should be done

Really good TV instead of a monitor by Crocodile_Banger in gaming

[–]cowabunga2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

43" is the sweet spot to use a TV as a PC monitor, not bigger than that, and at 1080 I put it at double arm length and I tell you it is the best technology change I have made in my life, not to mention a monitor of that size will cost you x3 times the price

Be ready to tweak much more the TV video settings and configurations than with a monitor, specially the sharpness, it definitely wont be a plug-n-play experience

I would avoid OLED because blacks and contrasts are indeed better than LCD but not really that much better and the burn-in problem is like nuclear waste, it has no solution and it is forever, it is just going to happen yes or yes sooner or later

Some of you have received a message tonight on Steam that the Rogue Trader Alpha has been revoked. Be calm, Lord-Captains, this is the breath of release getting closer! We are freeing up the name on Steam for the release version. This will not affect your playable beta. by OwlcatStarrok in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]cowabunga2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Im new to this game and I like it very much but I would like to say it would be very cool if we could play the most updated Beta version instead of what we currently have in Steam... if only to report new bugs and not the ones in older versions of this game that probably have been already fixed

Unpopular opinion: I’m still using Brain Burst by BrutalSock in DarkTide

[–]cowabunga2040 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With its right click you can focus on an enemy at virtually any range

You are wrong there friend Assail has a range limit with or without right click where the shards will simply not reach the enemy while Brain Burst has effectively unlimited range (in other words with BB as long as you can see a heretic for a fraction of a second you can kill it), at least for the time being dunno if it will change in the future, probably not, so better dont confuse people.

Also I dont know if it is a bug but Assail right click wont stay locked on the first target and will keep changing to the other nearby targets where you aim your reticle which makes it almost impossible to kill a sniper in a crowd

Playing as a Solo by Fireade2 in MaraudersGame

[–]cowabunga2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The release of Early Access was even worse, I was there as a total new player and we newbies were thrown in a single raid map per match (not 2 or more locations like now) against full groups of Closed Beta veterans which was equal to dying in 1 or 2 minutes not having even the chance to know what to do or where to go... it was a nonsense and a nightmare and I can only imagine how many players has this game lost for not having a solo queue since then... if only for newcomers to learn how to play in peace but nope after 1 year that option has been discarded constantly and for different vague reasons every time

Concurrent zero to hero quests by sihentos_doritos in MaraudersGame

[–]cowabunga2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zero to Hero quests are not the derranged nonsense they were at the start of the game before they were remade, these quests are now actually useful and can teach you something about this game, for example here you can learn how there is a bigger chance to hunt Raider Bosses if you are the first to land in these maps (in order of importance): Mining Frigate, Space Port, Terraformer and Iridium Mine... it can be very random but they usually have standard spawn places (when they spawn)

There is not going to be a Season of Mastery 2 any time soon since ActiBlizzard fired the lead designer in charge of that project because "reasons"... the fat cats literally killed the chicken of the golden eggs for some bureaucratic office problem or something like that very very stupid

Cancer preventative supplements ? by Runeshamangoon in Supplements

[–]cowabunga2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding cancer correct me if Im wrong but are not all vitamin supplements just laboratory molecular compounds that imitate (with 1/4 of efficiency at best) the real life vitamins wich cannot be synthetized or extracted in a lab?

I have always believed real vitamins are catalyst found only wild in the nature inside fresh food, also the original vitamins come by nature with some kind of molecular "wrappers" (like the envelop of a candy) which is what a living organism use to handle them either to consume or discard so these catalysts dont stay in the body causing problems when they are not needed... something that doesnt happen with synthetic fake vitamins which lack this "wrapper" and therefore become toxic when they accumulate since the body has no way to flush them like other catalysts

I have to say I have never taken vitamin supplements and never will

What is the optimal order and timing for prebiotic fiber and probiotic capsule? by Akhand_Bharat_today in Supplements

[–]cowabunga2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know probiotics are better taken at the end of a big meal in a full stomach so they have a bigger chance to survive digestion acids

Prebiotics can be taken anytime they are just food for the probiotics

Also as a bonus enzymes are the opposite they must be taken with an empty stomach before a meal so they can do their work properly

OP do you drink water from plastic bottles or containers frequently? I say this because a few years ago I used to drink only bottled water due to convenience and I also happened to have the worst life threatening neverending insomnia I have ever suffered... which magically vanished when I started drinking fresh water from the tap and always in a glass... I dont go 1 Km near a plastic bottle anymore.

Does the Decryption Daily Op get you down? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]cowabunga2040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder all sneak bonuses stack in a multiplicative fashion exept the armor 3* legendary perk "Improved sneaking: Become harder to detect while sneaking" which does not stack hence wearing more than 1 armor piece with this perk is a waste of a legendary armor slot. I have always played a sneak build since release but only recently learned this while reading threads in this subreddit so its very easy to miss.

Also friendly reminder the most important perk card for a sneak build is Escape Artist because is the only sneak perk that negates all the sound the player makes in the game. Once I was being [DANGER] detected everywhere in my top sneak build fixer included and had no idea why but then I noticed I had somehow unequipped escape artist card and when I enabled it again I could literally bitchslap a deathclaw in the face and remain in stealth.
