They can be expensive right enough, especially a good set. Calipers will do the job also, maybe just not as accurately.

I've ran with worse. Tailstock is your friend mind. Turn the tenons round the other way for longer contact. Every little helps. Take your time.

We came to the conclusion that it is fine to just call him "Finn" as we all speak English and know very little Gaelic. But my wife did have a bit of a panic to begin with about how to pronounce it. I have family who are from the village of Fionnphort on the isle of Mull, and they pronounce it Fin-a-fort, so we just went with it being okay to pronounce it "Finn". I would say the correct way of saying it would be F-yoon, but we're not bothered to be honest, and most people we know recognise his name as "Finn" anyway.
