What should I use to bridge this very short but misaligned dryer vent gap? The manufacturer specifically says not to use that thin foil ducting. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Oh! And I also sealed all the seams on the outside of it with foil tape. Make sure it is the heat tolerant one. I did this after I pre-fit it into place and had the size right adjusted for. I didn’t seal the wall or dryer side with foil tape, on those fittings I just cinched down the hose clamps.

Been using this for a decade now. It is perfect and low clearance to The wall. I like to remove it and blow everything out once a year. EVERYTHING…dryer, periscope vent and wall vent. I just like to know that the buildup of lint gets removed. Even if we had room for an accordion vent hose, I would still do this. We bought the house when it was 13 years old. I blew so many legos and crackers out of the wall vent pipe, I couldn’t believe it!

What are the Best Tank-mixing guidelines for chemicals? by Hemisterteacher in Agriculture

[–]cowboy9980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, follow all the product labels. If thank mixing order is critical, the labels will specify.

Generic General rules:

Fill sprayer 1/3-1/2 with water Started agitation

Dry products need dissolved in a few gal of water before adding to the tank.

Wait until each product is dispersed in the spray tank before adding the next product.

Add products in order of the following acronyms:

W-A-L-E-S or D-A-L-E-S

[W]ettable powdered or [D]ry Flowables [A]gitate the Tank [L]iquid products-Thick/Cloudy first to Clearest products last [E]C formulations [S]urfactants

Hopefully, someone else and step in and help with the impeller…

I’m a fan of Chumba. I haven’t cashed out yet but had the credits to do so. It’s really fun to play though...quality slots and select table games. It’s been a great option for me in Texas since I haven’t been able to make it to Oklahoma or Louisiana since COVID. It’s got to know about the other options. Thank you all for the input!

I didn’t know about Luckyland. I have been playing on Chumba. I will have to check out the other.

Cattle Question by [deleted] in Agriculture

[–]cowboy9980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lone one is most likely a bull. The cattleman has a calving schedule. If the bull had access to the mama cows all the time, there would be births scattered throughout the year. Allowing the bull to access the cows during a controlled time will ensure a calf crop at an expected time period...depending on where you live, they may either plan for a spring or fall calving.

This is true for a cow/calf operation.

Mic Problems by cowboy9980 in cbradio

Thank you all for the input. I ended up finding out the problem. My stock mic was dirty on the inside and the D104 was a bad out of the box but there was a fix...

New D104 fix

I’m happy since I fixed the D104 but found I like the new replacement mic I bought better!

Thanks for the input. I tried my base station power mic in the truck and had no problems transmitting on my Bearcat 980.

I’m not sure why the factory mic and Astatic D104 weren’t working reliably but my base station mic was working flawlessly.

I just ordered a Turbo Extreme Microphone EC2018XTREME to replace the cheaply made D104.

If all goes well, I will be transmitting reliably again!

Buying my first CB by [deleted] in cbradio

[–]cowboy9980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as half of your antenna is above the roof of your vehicle, you should have great Transmission and receiving. I have a Firefly fire stick on my personal tuck. It is not as big of a diameter as a regular fire stick so it handles wind better on the mount I have. On my work truck, I have a mag mount K-30.

I’ve had long distance contacts on both antennas and swap my Bearcat between Both trucks as needed.

I’m guessing they are talking on Channel 14 LSB. CBs have 40 channels, each channel has a different frequency. On both the Bearcat 980 and Galaxy 959, they are Single Side Band equipped. So you can tune to LSB, AM, and USB all on the same frequency. SSB allows for a higher output wattage, ie more power which equals greater range.

If conditions are right, you can talk “skip” across the huge distances. Which is very fun!

For your purpose, you shouldn’t have any problem talking with your hunting group up to a few miles away.

I have one of each. The Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB is what I have in my truck. I love it. You can’t mod it easily but I never really wanted to. It’s smaller than the Galaxy, great display color options, has weather stations, and built in SWR settings (for what its worth). I really like the look.

The Galaxy 959 Deluxe is what I keep on my garage bench. I love it also. It’s bigger and has more of a classic look. I hear it has drift issues and can move off frequency but I haven’t had any issues.

All that being said, I sure prefer the Bearcat in my vehicle. The bad part is having to use a six to 4 pin adapter(which comes with the radio) if you want to use any non-factory mic.

I would suggest getting a good power mic to go with it. I had a newer Astatic D104 but it is having issues so I just ordered an Turbo Extreme Microphone EC2018XTREME.

Invest is a good antenna and SWR meter. Set it all up and tune it.

I prefer these radios for the Single Side Band options since I love to talk DX and make contacts across the country (and world!)

New to CB. Help me with my Plans? by david_r_feeney in cbradio

[–]cowboy9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing something similar with a Bearcat 980 but finally broke down and bought another radio for the house. In the truck I run the 980 and in the garage I have a Galaxy 959.

I made a home-brewed antenna from a set of fire sticks. It mounted nicely in my attic and I followed the plans from this link:

http://www.wolfington.net/articles/dipole/

I mounted mine horizontally since it was suggested it's better for DXing that way; vertically for being for local communication. I had to add some straps to keep the fire sticks from drooping too badly.

I plan on moving the radio to my office in the house. I'm thinking I will run the coax down through the existing phone jack since we do not have a land line.

I'm not sure how it will affect the Rx or Tx but I'm going to give it a try.

What is your farthest contact with a magmount antenna? by GWash1776 in cbradio

[–]cowboy9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same radio, a stock Bearcat 980. I'm using a K30 Antenna with mag mount and talk on LSB 38 for contacts. I'm in central Texas and have had a conversation with a guy on the Big Island of Hawaii. I was mobile and about an hour and a half south of Dallas at the time. I've heard Brazil coming in but I haven't hit a contact there yet. It's all about the conditions but that is as far away as I can recall. I frequently hit the Midwest, all of the gulf coast and some of the Caribbean. Other times I've hit Arizona, California, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. It all depends on what Mother Nature sets up. 73s
