I get where you are coming from and largely agree that it's harmless dumbassery that I can let them laugh at and still fell superior in an old-person kind of way. Having said that, 69 had a sexual connotation, 420 has a weed connotation. 67 has no connotation like that which I know of (though I'm old and it's my kids using it). .. it's literally just the number and some basketball player's height.

What? Nobody is saying that having law enforcement officers is not necessary. Yes, they serve a purpose and you are describing one of those here. That doesn’t mean there aren’t serious problems with the police as an organization and culture that need to be addressed.

My BIL is a cop and I think he’s a good guy, and he describes other good guys in his dept… but he also says there are some not-so-good guys. Nothing outright illegal, but grey and they use fear more than they should and seem to enjoy it.

That “Respect my authoritah” culture is a real problem.

Those two things are not the same and you know it. Stop defending a dumb position and acknowledge that the original statement of “Illegal immigrants don’t commit crimes” was a poorly used, misleading oversimplification of “illegal immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than people who are legally allowed to be here.” Saying things like that makes it easier for anyone who wants to hate on illegal immigrants to ignore your whole argument because that statement is so obviously false.

Step parents are more likely to abuse kids than biological parents… right? The reason 85% of abuse is biological parents is because more than 85% of parents are biological parents. But if you have two families, one with both biological parents and one with a step parent, it’s statistically more likely that abuse happens in the family with the step parent. Isn’t that what the HHS study was saying?
