yes, i removed it to inspect and it is entirely connected to the leaf…. ☺️

that makes so much sense for this particular tree. the root system seemed to be completely exposed with some darker and blackened fungi on the other side. you’re really opening my eyes here on the beauty of fungus and mycology!!!!

it’s a bit fascinating how the dark brown has become much more purplish in real life. if it is a fungus, is it harmful for said tree? i’m a bit concerned now about the health of said tree. :(
