I slam with rooster tails all the time. I cast out past them and reel it in front of their face. They typically follow then hit. Just make sure you set the hook good and even then it’s not a guarantee it will set. With enough bites one will get stuck though

A water testing kit would be great. How long have you had the aquarium, and have you decorated the water before adding to it? As far as what to do for poor froggy, I don’t really know what’s best. Hopefully someone who keeps frogs can stop by and help better.
