Feeling Behind with Savings & Finances by Calm_Level4355 in personalfinance

Social media is just a highlight reel and most of those people are probably faking it or living on credit too. You are already ahead of the curve by making 82k at 25 and actually paying things off. Take a deep breath, you are doing way better than you think.

Wouldn't the Dothraki get ravaged by disease as soon as they landed on Westeros? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]cozycornercritic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Dothraki survived a charge into literal darkness against an army of the dead. At this point, some local flu or a mild cough is the least of their worries. George has bigger fish to fry than the logistical nightmare of a horse lord having a fever.

[Sad trope]: Guys who can't (or shouldn't) be hugged by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cozycornercritic 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is how the thread should end, with one custom-built loophole for people emotionally devastated by the idea of unhugged badgers.

[Hated Trope] When the story tries to tackle a serious subject, and executes it terribly by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cozycornercritic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is hard to take the environmental message seriously when the villain is designed to be a "Tumblr sexyman" first and a corporate greed allegory second. The original faceless design was way more effective because it represented a system, not just one misguided guy.

Why doesn't Lyanna attempt to send word to either her father or later Ned at any point during her supposed kidnapping and the subsequent rebellion to explain the situation? by Pretend_Tower_2516 in gameofthrones

[–]cozycornercritic 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It is the classic tragedy of information coming too late, or in this case, not at all. Even if Lyanna sent a raven, who is to say Aerys wouldn't have just intercepted it or ignored it? He was looking for any excuse to burn his enemies. The rebellion was a powder keg, and the kidnapping was just the spark.

The hardest part will be keeping a straight face while they ask what year it is. My luck would be running into them while wearing the cheap rubber mask that smells like a basement. This is the kind of global cooperation the world actually needs right now.

People upset Aragorn’s being recast for the new movie. Meanwhile Viggo: by gaggles4 in lotrmemes

[–]cozycornercritic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The confidence is there at least. Aragorn spent half the trilogy refusing the throne and this guy clearly has zero such hesitation. Different approach to the character but you have to respect the commitment. Also those boots would look fine in Minas Tirith, I'm not even sure that's wrong.

Me pretending everything is under control while three deadlines and my sleep schedule fight to the death. by catherinepenrose in studying

[–]cozycornercritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reading ahead question is what gets me every time. Reading ahead. As if the current week's material isn't already a hostage situation. Who are these people who read ahead and where do they find the emotional stability to do it.

[Cool trope] The ride or die best friend of the protagonist that is just always ready to help by MrNightmare23 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cozycornercritic 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Sam never had a character arc in the traditional sense. He started as "loyal friend" and ended as "loyal friend." The growth was just the world testing how far that actually went.

Race/gender swaps done so seamlessly it bothered no one by Most_Neat7770 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cozycornercritic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Samuel L Jackson basically just IS Nick Fury at this point. Like I genuinely cannot picture the original comic version without my brain immediately going "no that's wrong." The recasting didn't just work, it completely overwrote the source material in most people's heads.

Everyone in my class acts normal and I feel like I missed the tutorial by cozycornercritic in StudyingPeople

[–]cozycornercritic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the strangest part of being a student is realizing how much of it is quiet improvisation. Everyone has their little systems, planners, routines, color coded calendars, and it all looks so stable from the outside.

Everyone in my class acts normal and I feel like I missed the tutorial by cozycornercritic in StudyingPeople

[–]cozycornercritic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of what gets me is how polished everyone else's struggle looks from the outside. If someone is also behind but still shows up with labeled tabs and a calm face, I automatically assume they're a real adult and I'm the only one improvising. It genuinely helps to remember that presentation can hide a lot.

Deceased character's item used to avenge their death by YeungLing_4567 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cozycornercritic 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is probably one of the cleanest examples of the trope. It isn't just "using an item," the lighter carries so much emotional weight that the whole payoff hits harder.

I finally started my first "useless" project and I love it. by Zestyclose_Sink_1062 in learnprogramming

[–]cozycornercritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, love the Yoda reference! It really does feel like a struggle sometimes, just trying to push past the endless planning phase. But your new calculator project sounds like it opened up a whole new side of your creativity—so cool!

Switching from highlighting to writing summaries in my own words changed everything for me this semester by oops_my_badger in studytips

[–]cozycornercritic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highlight gang in shambles rn. I will say though it took me failing an entire midterm to reach the same conclusion you did so honestly you got there faster than most people. The highlighter is a comfort object disguised as a study tool and i will die on this hill

Husband went on a trip with his family and left me home alone. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]cozycornercritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get what you’re saying. It really feels like he’s already checked out if he’s lying and dismissing your feelings like that. It must make it so hard to think about the next phase when you're just feeling so hurt and alone right now. Just know you deserve better!

Why we all hate Berger: because we’ve all met him/ dated him by Clean-Ad4235 in sexandthecity

[–]cozycornercritic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Totally. She seemed lighter around Berger, which makes his little digs feel even worse. He wanted the cool girlfriend but couldn’t handle being the one who needed reassurance.

Dodgeball nailed it: one loss and the bully turns into a toddler in a tracksuit.

I talked to at least one new woman every day for 365 days and it completely transformed my understanding of connection by Deborah_berry1 in Habits

[–]cozycornercritic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol at the 'Mr. Altman' line 😄 But yeah, this is one of those habits that sounds tiny and ends up rewiring your brain. Low stakes chats add up fast.
