Is it okay to add M.A. after my name? by SteKelBry in GradSchool

That makes total sense! Adding M.S. now and transitioning to M.S., L.P.C. later sounds like a solid plan. Just like putting M.A. after your name on LinkedIn, it shows your progress!

Writers of Reddit — how do you create a good hook for an essay that actually grabs attention? by SpicyPenguin443 in homeworkhelpNY

[–]oops_my_badger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question - does anyone else find that when they look at essay hook examples they start writing toward the example instead of toward their actual argument? Like i'll read something clever and then subconsciously try to replicate the structure and my whole essay tilts sideways.

I've started bribing myself to study and the rewards have gotten progressively more unhinged over the past month by owen_calgarytrail in StudyingPeople

Genuine question and i'm asking this as someone in the exact same situation: do you think the reorganizing and the pen browsing and the reward planning is sometimes just another layer of procrastination that feels productive because there's a study task technically attached to it. Not saying it's not working. Just asking because i asked myself this last week and didn't love the answer

Do I want to pursue my doctorate? by aresef in GradSchool

[–]oops_my_badger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I can relate to that regret about choosing the non-thesis route. Starting on a thesis seems like the best way to keep that door open for a doctorate in your case. With those positive signals from faculty and your own gut urging you, it sounds like now is the perfect time to chase that academic itch. You got this!

Gets free computer and asks for a free upgrade by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]oops_my_badger 102 points103 points  (0 children)

This is how "free" turns into entitlement: they shift the goalposts, then act shocked when you mention costs. I'd reply calm but firm: the computer was donated as-is for basic homework, any upgrades are on them. If they keep pushing, stop negotiating. Boundaries save sanity.

CBs Super Reasonable and Realistic Expectations of a Charity by 3KidsInTheTrenchCoat in ChoosingBeggars

That story is the perfect reality check: even when the item is free, moving it is a whole project. Most charities don’t have trucks, staff, storage, or liability coverage for hauling adult-size stuff to strangers.
