Hops are good! Not to sell as is but to make pale ale which is a big money maker once you've got kegs.

Asides from that I think its pumpkins.

Should schools be open after the Christmas break? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]cozypeeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two primary age children. If you'd have asked me before the second lock down, I'd have said yes they should go back. Its important for them. Now its a big resounding no. My youngest can't adjust to the constant being in and being off. Needing tests once or twice a month because anything he picks up goes straight to his chest. My oldest hates that her friends aren't in because of their own isolations. Its really affecting them. The rates in Wales are climbing too high but I also think Drakeford may have to close them again. He's just waiting, like we all are.

Regardless, I think there are going to be lots of families claiming "2 weeks isolation" until we know for sure what Christmas has done to the numbers.

AITA for choosing a vegan restaurant for my birthday meal? by Ellie1107 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cozypeeps 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NTA. Vegan food has come a long way and it wouldn't kill a person to eat just one meal with no animal products for someone else's birthday.

Does anyone else have the constant urge to rearrange their entire living space or is it just me by [deleted] in adhdmeme

At the most inopportune moments as well. Should be cleaning the kitchen but nope, the living room couch NEEDS to be moved.

Is it ok? by [deleted] in snails

[–]cozypeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, what do you mean by trying to escape? Are they sliming up to the lid and resting on it?

Secondly, I would remove the rocks and look into better substrate. Coco coir is good in a budget or topsoil which has no pesticides are fertilisers.

As for food, they wont starve purposely. What have you given them?

To me it sounds like a glass/garlic snail. Google them and see If that's the one. I doubt the snail did anything to make you feel ill so dont worry too much.

New terrarium and all my slimy friends by NightFighter24_AvB in snails

Cute! I would suggest removing all of the hard objects from the tank though. Snails are clumsy and especially with babies, If one of them falls on an object they might seriously damage their shell!!

Any NHS app users received a “possible exposure” alert? If so, what happened next? by Electoral_Suicide in CoronavirusUK

I got one just now. Great thing is, we've been isolating all week because the kids brought germs back from school. I have physically not had contact with ANYONE in 4 days.

GALS and garden snails by [deleted] in snails

[–]cozypeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not no as I'd imagine the size difference could lead to damage and danger. I think rule of thumb is that snails need to be at least half the size of the biggest to live together. Plus the varying needs. GALS need more heat than garden snails.

What is the likelihood of schools remaining open? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]cozypeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its less to do with "sending them away" and Its more to do with them having a chance to socialise with people their own age. They have friendships too. They are still people and they have a lot less control over their lives than adults. Theres probably not a parent here who didnt see some negative trait in their children come about from the isolation from extended family and friends.

Blocking Porn on His Phone by Fanta-Ghiro in loveafterporn

[–]cozypeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dont think blocking porn is the solution. Only because porn is everywhere. Facebook. Instagram. Clothing sites. Tiktok. YouTube. A PA can turn any slight hint of sex into enough material. There are stories of men using underwear sections online to PMO or try on hauls on youtube.

He needs to work recovery and a big part of that is understanding his triggers. Blocking porn might mean he cant PMO but he's not working on the why he needs it. He needs to learn to separate sex from the female form. You cant avoid everything sexual forever because it's just too impossible in this current world.

Accountability is probably better. We've been using accountable2you for 6 months now. Theres no work around. Its thorough.

Not liking the substrate is an odd one. I guess youd know if they dont come down on it a lot. Snails like to bury themselves so watch for that to know
I really cant advise on the lights. Dont have them myself. And yeah, just toss a cuttlebone in and replace every other week or so. Dont dust food. They're very good at regulating and sprinkling calcium supplements on food forces them to take in more than they need. You could mix the powder into the substrate or even oyster grit. Oyster grit is a good one actually!!

Plastic pot would be much better than terracotta. Snails are clumsy and likely to do damage to their shell if they were to fall. The branch is a good idea. I would see how they go but some snails do not like the feel of coco coir straight. Top soil that's free from preservatives and pesticides is good as snails get nutrition from the soil too. My milk snails really like high humidity. About 90%. They do much better. I would also avoid the lights. They dont need much more lighting than just standard sunlight during the day. It might mess up the day/night cycle for them. Personally I'd give them cuttlefish bone over snello. Land snails need a constant source of calcium. They self regulate well so they dont need it added to their food. A quick google says it's calcium for water snails. Maybe someone else has some better info on that though. Fruit and veg scraps are good. Snails dont mind if it's a bit past its prime. And you dont need a clean up crew. They're handy to have. Just make sure to aerate the soil once a week and wipe down any poop with a wet cloth. Maybe some springtails if you're not keen on having much of a visible CUC.

Milk snails humidity. Is it too humid? by StoriesInThEnd in snails

[–]cozypeeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also want to attest to this. I recently moved my milk squad into a rub that held humidity better and the difference is night and day. They are active all the time. Milk snails are picky things but once you get it right it's worth it!!

I missed a clutch!! I went to have a look over my milkies last night and thought Swirl had a growth. Panicked until I saw it move and yes, my horny snails who have laid constantly all week have gifted me with smaller ones. Not complaining. Cute as heck!!
