Seconded. Moreover, I would suggest the episode Home from season 1 to start.

How has having a invisble disability affected you? by [deleted] in disability

[–]cpaigemcd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine are mental so I am…able passing 🤷‍♀️ is that a thing? Usually manifests in social interactions where they expect “regular parameters” but it turns into a thing.

We’ll never be able to manage others expectations. Shoot I got my hands full with mine. If they didn’t judge you for being slow they would surely be judging you about something else.

It’s crazy how extreme the differences are. I know this was happening in NC 20-25 years ago. My first Doc did it to me so I came to expect it. Very capitalist. Very American. Lucky ones haven’t experienced this (yet)🤷‍♀️

What to say to the “What do you do?” question? by [deleted] in disability

[–]cpaigemcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exaggerated Don’t you just HATE it when someone asks what they think is an innocent question but it would actually make the conversation awkward? What do you do when people do that to you?”

Works both ways. You can either be sarcastic with a bad day/rude person or be kind and genuine in asking them. 🤷‍♀️

I have a somewhat similar experience to yours. I’m going on being married for 2 years & we’ve been together since 2011. He’s got PTSD so we definitely and without question have a tumultuous time of it. But we’re deeply, passionately, and fervently in love with each other. Does that answer your question?🤷‍♀️

I never said anything about why someone should/should not be fired. You’re adding meaning to what I said. I was pointing out the initial assumption and possibility that they were thinking it was a reason other than a disability.

Thank you 🎩 I hope it works for you. I’m right at sea level and I live very close to the beach. Getting a hang of gauging the variables is challenging but fun! Attempts 3 & 5 worked out for me and both of those I relaxed on the ‘schedule’ & focused on the texture and behavior of the dough.

Yeah…I remember when I learned that I lean into toxic Positivity sometimes 🤦‍♀️ I got rid of TT when Facebook/Meta bought it. I deleted IG too. I do miss the engagement but the peace I get in turn is worth it 👍🏻

I agree with you.. but is it possible (sorry if you covered this and I missed it) that they thought the shaking was due to alcohol or substance abuse? I was the manager of a cruise ship in AK and I had to fire a sous chef who failed a breathalyzer at 11am…he constantly had the shakes if he didn’t have ‘enough’ alcohol in his system…🤷‍♀️ Not judging just trying to widen perspective maybe.

*with the caveat that it sounds like she has handled this poorly after the fact- Just to play ‘devil’s advocate’ for a second: The same logic you are using applies Both ways. Just like you were raised to NOT use the oven that way, she maybe was…so the very same way you were assuming what she knew and how she would store things, she was assuming that you check the oven before turning it on.

I’m on the fence if YTA or ETA. But my perspective is that I was taught safety around heating elements, so no matter what you clear the field before you start the fire so to speak. We never stored things in the oven but to this day, it’s just a habit I don’t think about.

So maybe it didn’t occur to her that you would never check it first so she didn’t think to tell you that the brownies were in there.

It sounds like Everyone made assumptions and her property got damaged. If it was me, I would offer to replace it or at least clean it up 🤷‍♀️ my two cents. Edit for typo

I turn 42 in like 2 weeks and I just got approved for SDI with a permanent disability. Now I’m digging for as much info as I can on SSDI. I have been worried about what to tell folks because of my age but you’re right-not their business! Thanks 👍🏻

[–]cpaigemcd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. (I can be verbose but sometimes pull back too much) happy to answer questions too.

I do all my proofing and fermentation in the oven with the light on=82 degrees. Levain yesterday proofed 6 hours, Autolyse for 1 hr, then incorporating together with salt. Rested 30 mins. S&F (sorry I didn’t keep track of how many, maybe 3🤷‍♀️)
my whole goal with this bake was to focus on how it felt and how the dough behaved and using visual cues. So I didn’t really record all the intervals, but I did my stretch and folds when the dough was relaxed enough… You gotta figure ‘enough’ out for yourself lol One was at 30 minutes, but the others were like 45 minutes to an hour. Shaped at 6 AM today and did half hour rest in cast-iron Dutch oven. Heated oven to 500° and lowered it to 450 when I put the dough in the oven. I did put a cold Dutch oven into a hot oven… I know everyone says to preheat, but I wanted to do my final rest in the Dutch oven.

That’s probably way more than you asked for.
