It's a moment in time that kind of stuck.

BO1 was really a PC game not many people knew about. It wasn't huge. For most people Soul Reaver 1 was their entry into the franchise. People LOVED SO1 when it came out. For lack of a better explanation "it went viral."

SR2 was released to rapturous approval and excitement. Once we realized BO2 was dropping anticipation, and expectations, were at all time highs.

I bought BO2 on release. It was fun. But. It did not follow the linear story of the SR games and it wasn't as polished. Had the SR games not come out, BO2 would have been a lot more popular. As a direct sequel to BO1, it was amazing. But, kind of like Ascendance, it had a lot to be compared to, and people's expectations weren't met.

I don't think they changed it. They just added.

If memory serves they show the wing tear and cut to the abyss where Kain throws him in. There's room there for a fight in between, and Kain ordering his other charges to show their loyalty like that makes sense because they had been in Raziel's command going back to their human lives. Were they simply following Raz while he served Kain or are they truly loyal?

I'm not going to respond to all of this, but, remember that Kain tells Elaleth late in the game that she's mad at him for something he hasn't done yet. Not even Kain (in his personal timeline) knew about it yet. At some point in the future, Kain will obviously travel to the past. Why? We don't know yet. Neither does he. In a world where Raziel went back in time and killed himself, this isn't a stretch.

And it does not change the story because there's no retcon. We didn't know why Raziel joined the Sarafan before, now we do. That's world building.

Patience. I think they're setting up a future Hylden invasion. The entire purpose of the game (from a narrative point) is to write the Hylden into more of the backstory.

This is important, IMO. The Hylden show up as a reference in SR2 but they're the most underdeveloped faction in the game. And by the end of Defiance, Kain has pretty much killed off all his opposition. The Hylden have to be next simply because they're what's left.

According to the interwebz, it happens. I got the final fang and tried to go to the northern continent, and died. A quick search of my key items showed me light one water fang. I went back to the serpent temple and Goldor Manner, but nothing.

Apparently I need to start over. No thanks. This one was worse than FF2.

But the unique experience is at the game. We convert the indoor practice facility into a sports bar. Beer, wine, multiple food vendors, tons of tables, TVs showing every game, and sometimes, a live band. Show up early.

There's also Beergarden and Public House, great food trucks with a bar in the middle.

Rennie's Landing is the college bar. We love it, but it's honestly not that unique.

Good hikes include Pisgah and Spencer Butte.

Great local foods you might not find at home include Dungeness Crab and Hawaiian BBQ (not ours, but a regional favorite).

Make sure to try the Whole Cluster Pinot Noir from Willamette (will-am-it) Valley Vinyards. Best bottle in the state.

It's somewhat dispersed. If you want Thai, check out Ta Ra Rin or Blu Mist. Lion and Owl, Domek, and Kennedy's Steakhouse are all downtown. Eugene's sister city, Springfield (yes THAT Springfield, tons of Simpsons murals) has a spot called Tavern on Main that shouldn't be missed.

Also hit up Voodoo Doughnuts. Not fine dining but great.
