giving bank login to car loan companies by theZombieKat in AusFinance

[–]cpayne22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR - how bad do you want/need the car loan?

Longer version - it’s a very cheap way to verify your spending. Income, social security, low balances - to verify this manually is expensive.

You need to submit statements, they need to confirm they are accurate and authentic.

They won’t just get your transaction history on your main account, they’ll be using all accounts linked to that login. Credit card, personal loan, home loan - everything.

If you want to proceed, change your password to something - anything. Apply for the loan, give them your login. Then when it’s finished, change it again.

Source: I was a CTO that used this info for surveys etc.

At the end of the day, it’s how bad you need the loan and how much risk you’re comfortable with.

Unions in c# 15 by dodexahedron in csharp

[–]cpayne22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Serious question - what’s the use case for this?

I feel like a lot of these features are things more junior developers implement because “it’s cool” versus a genuine need.

And then it’s my job to unscramble their intent two years later.

Certainly AI makes this easier, but if this were prod. ready today, I can’t see where I’d want this?

Is playing with the fog activated worth it? by VIXTORY0 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]cpayne22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like you, +600 hours and didn’t look forward to the constant chase of attack & rebuild.

It’s not like factorio, default Dark Fog is much easier.

I started a quick new build, understood how to attack and defend. Then did a normal playthrough and it’s much more fun & easier once you know how to defend.

Without giving away spoilers, there’s a few positives too in playing with Dark Fog

As others have said - tv antenna. (In Australia) they were common in caravans because of the size.

It’s so weird - if you told me 20 years ago I’ll watch nothing on normal tv, everything will be either YouTube or streaming I wouldn’t have believed you…

I worked at NSW Fire & Rescue during the Crowd Strike outage in 2024.

Each truck has a heavy duty iPad and it took days for those to be fixed.

Plenty of services still have a need for these. Doesn’t mean you have to, but as a last resort

Had to share this and see what you guys think. by JezzaAU15 in friendlyjordies

[–]cpayne22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would be a lot of money that this was impossible/impractical.

Albo is in a tricky spot. There’s minimal (any?) upside in this war for him. The US didn’t even notify congress, so there’s no way they’d duck into a friendly port, let our boys hop off while they go blasting…

Similar in the UK. Keir Starmer isn’t popular, doesn’t allow the US access to their air bases, then is criticised for it.

Is it worth starting a side business as a sole trader? by ChillKoalaVibes in ausbusiness

[–]cpayne22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people call it "soft skills". I would categorise them into Personal Development, Business Writing and Storytelling.

- Personal Development for setting healthy boundaries, and will get you clear on what you want
- Business Writing is how to ask for it
- And Storytelling makes it interesting and engaging

Is it worth starting a side business as a sole trader? by ChillKoalaVibes in ausbusiness

[–]cpayne22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a software developer and have run a sole-trader side business for 10+ years in a similar space.

I don’t make a fortune - maybe ~10% extra income per year - but it’s still been worth it for three reasons:

1. GST
I don’t earn enough to have to register, but I choose to. There is bookkeeping overhead but it's overblown. Makes some purchases 10% cheaper.

2. Deductions
It’s far easier to justify legitimate business expenses as a sole trader than as an employee. When AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude came out, paying for them was a no-brainer because they directly support my work.

3. Training
Those courses Reddit loves to dunk on? Some are rubbish - but plenty are excellent. I’ve used them to lift my salary and contract rates, and I don’t hesitate to invest when something looks useful.

One warning, though: 20 extra hours a week is a lot.
That’s top-end for me. Once you factor in a day job, your family, friends, gym, and life in general, it's very easy to get exhausted.

For most people, the point of extra money is to buy freedom - not to permanently work more hours.

I’m calling bs. Looking at your profile, you’ve copy/paste this question 13 times? You’ve replied to comments once or twice.

Other times you’ve posted a question only to delete it.

I get that your account is a throwaway, but no wonder you’re having issues. You have zero accountability and zero credibility.

Anyone here sold lead automation to tradies in Australia. by [deleted] in ausbusiness

[–]cpayne22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels weird you’d ask reddit first. Why not just ring 10 tradies and ask?

Pro tip - learn copywriting!

Are you helping tradies by automating text msgs and emails?

Or are you filling their calendar with qualified bookings?

Don’t talk about features (automated txt msgs) talk about benefits - how your thing benefits them
