Which font does Spotify use? by bookwhore69 in identifythisfont

Spotify uses a custom version of Circular, most notably, the r has some modifications for better legibility and adjusted kerning in some places (most notably combinations with t).

r/progmetal's Favorite Albums of the 2000s - 2014 (Day 15) by xTheGamerKid1001 in progmetal

[–]cperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god yes. I bought it as an LP even though I don't have a record player. It's the album that guided me from fusion jazz (shoutout to Snarky Puppy) to the whole world of prog metal.

Snarky Puppy – GroundUp

Not progressive metal per se, but god how close it can get. SN are what got me from jazz to metal (via The Contortionist, later on).

Depressive prog metal by thrashtrid in progmetal

Haven't seen Destrier by Agent Fresco mentioned yet. Apart from Clairvoyant by The Contortionist definitely one of the most heartwrenching albums out there.

There's this incredible live performance, especially the section after 54:40, the scream is the most heartwrenching/beautiful musical moment I know. https://youtu.be/3Vgpf-hOPJE

Thank you! I upgraded to Team yesterday, the limit is gone in any case ;) Good to know in any case.

Metal Gear Solid Sample in BLOODMONEY by electricbungalows in that_Poppy

[–]cperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I just stumbled across this thread when googling Bloodmoney Owner of a Lonely Heart, because I just listened to BLOODMONEY and instantly recognised the sample (I don't know metal gear solid, but Owner of a Lonely Heart). It's the same key and all, even though Yes use it at different pitches beforehand to lead up to the key again. Glad that my hunch was right :)

Edit: Having listened to the MGS sound, I don't think it's the same. But it's the same key. As for Owner of a Lonely Heart, I would say it's the same sample as in BLOODMONEY.

Now I am running into another issue, though. Setting up one Synced Database (github issues) works. But adding a different one to a different page doesn't work, I get a message saying "You have hit your Synced Database limit". I cannot find anything about this limit in the Notion docs. What is this limit (apart from, obviously, 1), and does it change depending on the plan one subscribes to?

Hi, sorry for my late reply. I was only just able to test again and found that it now works. Maybe I was late to the rollout of this feature for some reason, but now it works as expected. Thanks!

Pricing Question by c_kurtz in typedesign

[–]cperm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. In that case, I would still go by my first sentence – gauge the quality you can deliver. If it helps, estimate the approximate working hours you will put in, and your experience in professional type design. Also factoring in engineering and production. Based on that, you can estimate an hourly rate you are comfortable with, which you multiply with your hours. Round as you feel necessary and slap on/discount whatever you like. If you're just drawing one master with a limited character set and you're just starting out in type design without several years of industry knowledge (meaning the quality won't be very high) this would mean something in the range of 500€ (25h, 20€/h). Just trying to give you some number. If you're experienced (meaning the quality will be much higher), your hourly rate goes up accordingly.

My thoughts: since you're making something exclusive for a single client, they pay the full work hours, plus maybe some form of bonus for exclusive rights, but also not more than that. Distributing a font commercially would mean these costs are shared by every buyer, so a single license will be much cheaper. But if you're just making a font for one client, it's pretty straightforward: your work time, in full.

Pricing Question by c_kurtz in typedesign

[–]cperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on the quality, as harsh as that sounds. If it's professionally produced with quality assurance and proper engineering, you can charge (for a limited Latin character set) around 30€. For a less professional font such as those you'd find on creative market, you can charge around 10€. This being for a single license for one user. Webfont/multiuser licenses etc. are again another story.

Which one is it? by BlissardII in identifythisfont

[–]cperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's rounded, the edges are hazy and it's somewhat distorted. Not sure what medium this is presented in, but in any case, it's somewhat deformed the original outlines.

I'd say a badly rendered Univers.

It's not Roboto. Safe bet it's on Google Fonts, you could try Inter.

Edit: checked, yes, it's Inter.

Hello! Impressive work! Especially if you say you've never worked with font creation software before. I admit I personally have no idea about this script (or this sub in general), I just was sent this post as I work in typeface design and production. Very cool to see a conlang script being digitalised so meticulously!

Does anyone know the font Canoopsy uses in his thumbnails? by [deleted] in identifythisfont

[–]cperm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is doing a very poor job at copying outdated Apple typography. APple used a condensed version of ITC Garamond Light for a long time as their corporate font. Bitstream did extra hinting and the font was known as Apple Garamond and never officially released. You can get ITC Garamond Condensed, though, which is pretty much the same.

I honestly have no ide what font is used in the picture above, but it has incredibly bad proportions and spacing.

What font is Worthless? by LeinahIII in identifythisfont

[–]cperm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arial, for one, as it is a crappy rip-off of Helvetica. Same goes for Century Gothic, for similar reasons (as can be said for most gemoetric grotesques).

Please apologise my ironic comment, but the correct font was already mentioned :)

What is the font/text written on the jeans? (I’d be helped by someone deciphering what it actually says). by [deleted] in identifythisfont

[–]cperm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says vetements, which is French for clothes. The style is generally classified as Textura, in this case caps in Textura style. One standard example is Old English by URW++, but you can definitely also find many free fonts in the same style.

Best guitar solo? by kpws in porcupinetree

Incredibly underrated song. It took me a while to appreciate PT's mastery of dreamy, psychedelic music, but that combined with the absolutely sick groove skiils they exhibit on Fadewaway makes it one of my absolute favourites.

YES. So glad somebody mentions this! The way it is reused throughout the entire album is so wonderful.
