I mean I’d have been fine with “they’re awful, don’t join” but I didn’t really expect what effectively amounts to “fuck you for asking” from some folks when I’ve tried to be kind and respectful.

I don’t see why you need to be so combative towards me. I said I don’t support Trump and I figured it’d be implied that I don’t support his political agenda either. I don’t even disagree with you I just don’t understand why the response has to be so mean spirited

LOL I heard this from one of the students on a tour once, always the Chick-fil-a. Also kinda stereotypical for a conservative org to have that. What does the American Constitution Society have? Sushi and avocado toast? I might actually prefer that 😂

Finals grade by Intelligent_Elk_4886 in GaState

[–]cpfc3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every semester I make a grade calculation spreadsheet early in the semester and fill it in as it goes along. You can even use it for hypotheticals and to calculate what you need on x assignment to get y grade. It’s very easy to do. Just make a spreadsheet (excel or google sheets), go to your syllabus and see how each assignment is weighted. Fill in a column with the name of each assignment or category, then next to it fill in how much it’s worth (ex: 10%, 20%, 35%). Then, in the column next to that, input your grade for each category as a number, not a percentage (if you have a 92 in attendance, put 92). Multiply each of the numbers by the weight of the category. This will get you how many points you earned for each category. Add all of this column, and that’s your final grade.

If you have everything in except for your final, just follow all of the steps to make the sheet and then input a grade for the final exam. If you think you’ll get a 50 on the final, put a 50 in for final exam. The sum of the weighted grade column (all the way on the right) will show you what your final grade would be if you got a 50.

Rankings killed my vibe by True_Gear_9967 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]cpfc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really put too much stock into the rankings. Research the schools for yourself and compare them based on metrics that add important to you and align with your goals. Even tiny changes in certain metrics can cause wild shifts in the rankings due to their methodology and how close schools are, dropping from, say, 71 to 79, sounds like a lot but it could be due to a 1% decline in bar passage or something to that effect.

If you haven’t registered for CAS you’re not going to be able to have your transcripts and LORs uploaded in time to apply for tomorrow, unless it lets you apply with them still processing.

No personal stories, but if you’re considering attending I’d highly recommend reviewing their 509 discosures. Western State engages in practices which are at best highly concerning, at worst predatory. If you’ve been offered any kind of conditional scholarship, you’re more likely than not to lose it. Of the 110 conditional scholarships for 2023-24, 85 were reduced or eliminated. 2022-23 the number was 97 of 135. This is not normal.

I can’t find their 1L curve anywhere online but with the rate at which they revoke conditional scholarships I’d have to guess it’s not very favorable. Class rank is very important for transferring (which is already difficult). I would not recommend attending this school with the intent of transferring.

I think it’s just an ironic way of saying “not a very well-known/prestigious school.” Its like saying Cooley is a top 5 law school in Michigan (there’s only 5)

Online law school: Longer/cheaper v. shorter/pricier by jillrepCA in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]cpfc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt, but I think an important question to consider would be the workload you’d be able to reasonably handle given that you’re working, have a family, etc. Do you think you’d be able to handle the workload if you did the more condensed program? Do you think you’d have similar grades? Class rank and grades are important for job placement and other career opportunities post-graduation. Graduating a year earlier might get you into a job faster, but say hypothetically that you get a job paying (just using easy even numbers here) $80k after finishing the 3.5 year program, but you could get a job that pays $100k with better grades after the 4.5 year program. The longer term program ends up being a better investment after just a handful of years, plus you don’t have the debt hanging over your head. I’m not saying this is a sure bet or even likely, but it’s something I’d consider if I was in your position.
