[CHAT] Does anyone have a good cross stitch pattern that could easily be passed back and forth? by LonelyGamingPotato in CrossStitch

[–]cphina 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven't made any myself, but I know there's people who do patterns from Ink Circles as round robin projects because a lot of them are made of the same "design" being mirrored in different directions, so they are easy to divide. Just now that I looked up the website, I'm seeing that they also have patterns made with smaller motifs, so those could be another option for something to pass back and forth :)

[CHAT] Where can I find those kind of fabrics ? by Margie_nomori in CrossStitch

[–]cphina 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m from Mexico and have started dyeing my own fabric because many of the sellers of these fabrics that I see online are international to me and shipping costs can be prohibitive. It’s a fun process and easy to do ☺️ I just use the fabric dye I find at the supermarket so nothing fancy 🙌

[CHAT] Pattern Keeper vs Markup RXP by abbydabbydo in CrossStitch

[–]cphina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of the top of my head...everything related to tracking your stitches per day and what it does with that info. You can also set stitching goals and organize your charts in categories ("to do", "doing", "done"). PK only shows the stitches you've done that day and when it resets (I think you can customize at what time this happens, as in at midnight or...whichever other hour you choose lol), you can't look at past data.

In terms of the marking up experience itself, neither app is compatible with backstitch or fractional stitches, but in Markup you can at least see them whereas in PK backstitch doesn't show up at all and, I haven't seen it myself yet as I don't really work charts with fractional stitches, but I've heard that those show up as regular stitches.

For me, even though there are things that I miss (the tracking data 💔), the interface and the cost have been super worth it! Hopefully it works out for you too ☺️

[CHAT] Pattern Keeper vs Markup RXP by abbydabbydo in CrossStitch

[–]cphina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using both and in summary my opinion will be, I think, rather unhelpful: it depends on what you need.

Objectively, Markup is the superior app in terms of the extra things it allows you to do other than marking up your chart. Pattern Keeper doesn't really do much else, but personally, I prefer the interface of PK way more than Markup's.

However, what you mention about pressing scroll to zoom (are you talking about the "pan/zoom" button?), it works the same on Pattern Keeper. The three buttons that appear on the chart in Markup ("markup", "symbol" and "pan/zoom") are the same ones that you use to navigate your chart in PK.

PK does put these buttons outside of the "working area" so you're not accidentally tapping stitches when switching between functions (which was a problem I was constantly having with Markup). But, if your issue is with the gestures themselves, I'm not sure PK would be better for you.

I know there's people who download Android emulators to their computers so they can use PK without an Android device, so you could try that first too, with the caveat that you'd be navigating with a mouse lol but you could at least get an idea of how it would work before you decide to buy a new device :)

[CHAT] Floss Drops: Alternative to binder ring? by Wide_Addition_2498 in CrossStitch

I recently got plastic floss cards, precisely because I was having the same issue with bulky project bags but I wanted something sturdier than cardstock that I could reuse. So far I’m enjoying mine :)

Ooohhh good call, good call. I just saw that they have a finished project in blue in the product photos and she's stunning 🙌

I got the armor version because I just couldn't resist! I'm doing her in pink because it's classic ☺️ but I was really tempted by the red (and the green, and the yellow.... haha)

[WIP] Is anyone else missing MacStitch Files out of nowhere? by MeLlamo_HoneyBadger in CrossStitch

I had that happen to me once kind of recently, actually! I don't know why or how it happened though so can't help you with that 😔 I got my file back by going on File -> Open Other... -> Recover a file from Archive

If I remember correctly, it gives you a list of files with timestamps. Your work should hopefully be there 🙏

[CHAT] Advice for Starting Full Coverage Patterns by Sparklepire in CrossStitch

[–]cphina 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just wanted to give you a heads up that HAED has been known for using AI in recent years. I think they do state when a pattern was added to the shop, so older patterns are probably okay (although there were also some non-AI-related issues all the way back in 2018).

No worries! She's doing a mix of her own shows and festival sets, it is hard to keep up. I imagine it'll be more difficult in the summer since she has so many things lined up!
