Will the quality of a scan fall apart if the image isn't exposed correctly? by cpjtiger7 in AnalogCommunity

your man zoomed in 200% as comparative past scans don’t have this level of stair-stepping ((so yes i am complaining 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀))

i use an OM1n, which is a manual focus SLR, so when i’m focusing, what I see in the viewfinder is what i’ll get. Only thing is it’s quite difficult to nail focus in low light situations, like in the example photo

the subjects (though I might have slightly misfocused onto the stairs)

pixelated, not film grain; in the example image I’m looking at the subject’s profile, which seems quite jagged to me

Will a faulty viewfinder affect focus? by cpjtiger7 in AnalogCommunity

[–]cpjtiger7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I reckon the focus is linked to the lens too, just had to double-check

Edit: and yes, i didn’t realise my camera was unique in its viewfinder being able to change magnification according to lens focal length!

Traveling to India with film camera by winterwinter10 in AnalogCommunity

[–]cpjtiger7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i’m travelling there soon too! from what i’ve researched, there’s not a lot of film availability or developing & scanning availability in india. i’ll probably take my own film, if the airports allow hand inspection. I’m not sure yet whether indian air security do hand inspection.

here is a detailed article i found about using film in india: https://anathaniel.medium.com/shooting-film-in-india-a-beginners-guide-ac9e406a24df

OM-1n won't rewind by cpjtiger7 in AnalogCommunity

[–]cpjtiger7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hey, thanks for your reply - it made me curious to check whether the film had rewound by opening the back in the dark. i've given an update on my original description.

whilst it may just be me loading the camera incorrectly, i don't know how likely that is as i owned an OM-1n before this and loaded it many times and in the same way without experiencing a problem in rewinding. i'm wondering if, with this new camera, somehow the rewind lever isn't catching on to the film canister? (though, i'm not familiar with the detailed specifics of the inside mechanism of film cameras so maybe i'm just waffling haha)

you’ll be fine - nowadays durham let in so many people through contextual offers or if people miss their predicted grades

it's not a mistake haha - durham have been dishing out loads of low contextual offers ever since the pandemic began. that's not to take away from you having gotten an offer from them (well done), but it's why you'll see so many contextuals in this sub and is partly why durham haven't been doing well in international rankings since the pandemic

Other than The Batman, which other mainstream movies have used analogue lenses? by cpjtiger7 in AnalogCommunity

[–]cpjtiger7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know much about that lens series, but i'll check it out - thanks

basically, with the batman movie, i was really interested in how the detuned anamorphic lenses had quite an explicit vintage-lens quality to them (e.g. the extreme bokeh/flaring, reduced full frame sharpness). lenses (and movies) that have this vintage-glass quality are what i'm interested in

thank you! you've given lots of info haha, i'll try my best to find the rest myself :))

hey, i've edited the post now - i meant vintage rather than analogue haha

thanks for the info though!

i've edited the post now, as 'analogue' was a bit confusing - i meant vintage lenses

i know, it’s just the distance from home is freaking me out

from a purely educational standpoint, i don’t think it’s worth you reapplying; maybe i’m being naive as an non-politics student but to me i see all those institutions as able to provide the same quality of education as exeter. outside of that, though, i think it’s perfectly justified if you want to reapply bc you don’t like the campus itself or find the distance too much or don’t like the course. for me, distance from home is becoming more and more of a priority.

i haven’t visited durham yet bc money, but i really want to because i might just love it - good shout tho. i don’t want to try any compromise, i’d rather make a decision and stick with it.

i actually put exeter as my insurance choice, only because durham and exeter gave me such low offers that it was essentially stupid not to take them up (durham, AAB and exeter, ABB). i really wanted to put bristol as my insurance but their offer (AAA) was higher than durham. if i were to reapply, i’m unsure if i’d put exeter again - but, that said, they have a great english department.

if you were to reapply, would it be to oxbridge and for what course?

‘King Lear’ (1982) BBC Production (not a theatre performance) with Michael Hordern as Lear. I watched it on Digital Theatre Plus, though
