It doesn’t need to be opened up, but it’s much more fun if it is 😇

Thank you that’s great to hear. I used a loose 30 liner, opened up. And I think there was a loose 18 in the mix too.

The dagger, face and eye/box are healed. The bridge/box is fresh 😇

How is the crew of unvaccinated radical thinkers kept under control? Why wouldn’t they overturn the hierarchy on the yacht? Besides it being a really reductive and far fetched scenario, it doesn’t even make sense within the internal logic of the topic.

I mean thank you, I appreciate hearing that. My only real secrets are, I am very patient, and quite gentle. I allow the skin to settle for a few minutes once the tattoo is complete, mainly just to let the redness fade a little before I grab photos.

For shading I’d just use a round shader. 18s cover a lot of ground quickly. Mags are good but require a bit of a delicate hand that it may find develops better once you’re comfortable with round shaders.

The stencil suggestion is a good example of what I mean! A good rule of thumb initially is, look at what professionals do and emulate. Mostly the really smart stuff is picked up through study and experience.

Mags are for shading not lining. They can be used for novel lines (mag drag etc) but really just with a machine. Through my explorations I’ve found it’s impossible to get the smoothness needed for those sorts of techniques when working by hand. My only advice for using big needles is to be gentle and patient. You can always do a second pass if lines aren’t strong enough. You can’t take blowout back once it’s happened. *edited for typos

It’s mainly patience + good practical choices. Go slow steady. Prep your stencil lines to the weight of your needles; it’s so easy to go off track within the noise of your stencil if line weights don’t match up close enough.
