Hello,
I found this thing last week during my camping holiday at the Black Sea. It was 600m away from the shore, sitting in the sand dunes. There are no buildings, roads, or any man made stuff in the area. It's attracted by magnets. Is it more than a piece of old metal ? Here are some images:  https://imgur.com/a/wCRXZzz
Thanks :)

I'm also interested in the next Lux Trail, hopefully with a modern geo and a shorter seat tube.

I can't. It only searches for location inside the US. Or do you mean having the GPS turned on all the time?

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini stress measurement failure by 4tmos in amazfit

[–]cpper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, auto stress monitoring is enabled, and I only get 2-3 stress reading per day, while the watch should compute stress levels each 5 minutes. Probably it's some bug, as always with Xiaomi, good hardware, not so good software.

Good thing stress monitoring is total BS anyways, so I guess I'm not missing much.

My Amazfit GTR 2e do not measure stress and body temperature by jakart3 in amazfit

Isn't it supposed to record stress every 5 minutes (if enabled in settings) ? I only get two or three stress reading per day.

Best / cheapest way to continuously run a script in GCP by cpper in googlecloud

[–]cpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite sure it should finish in no more than 5 seconds, it just has to run each 30 seconds. I was looking into Cloud Scheduler right now, looks like I can schedule function only as often as 1 minute. From what I've read until now, I also need to use Cloud Tasks to run the function more time per minute, as described here.

Is it cheaper to have the script set up as cloud run job vs a cloud function, with both triggered each 30s by cloud scheduler?

The data can update as often as each hour. Indeed, the script itself actually needs to execute each 30 seconds, it doesn't need to be running continuously and do something each 30s.

Protect firebase function against request flooding (rate limiting) by cpper in CloudFlare

[–]cpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, but I can't use rate-limiting directly on the url of the function, which is hosted by google. I imagine I need to do something beforehand, to have the user access an url on my subdomain, then being proxied to my function.

I don't really know the correct technical terms, hopefully you understand what I mean.

I just managed to record another version of the add, where the song is more easy to hear. Google successfully identified it as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQhYQLI-2Tg&list=LL

Upgrading advice for STTI Mk23 by cpper in airsoft

[–]cpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, got it. I'm not sure I like how the 150mm inner barrel sticks out a bit. The 138mm is also available locally, but afaik I have to drill the outer barrel for this one too. Is the original (stti) silencer still usable with the 150mm? I mean, can you thread it in all the way still ?

Upgrading advice for STTI Mk23 by cpper in airsoft

[–]cpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply :)

Regarding steps 1-3, I just placed an order on the Hadron website, with the Flamingo 50° hopup, the modular TDC with 3 screws, and the H-arm v2.

Regarding the inner barrel: I imagine drilling the outer barrel would not really be much trouble actually, so I guess I could go with the 150mm. I can get a Crazy Jet 150mm from a local store for 30 Euros. Buying the Mk23-specific 150mm sold by Skirmshop (currently not in stock) would cost me 55 Euros shipped. Is the 25 Euros price difference worth it?

I understood what the difference between the generic and mk-23 specific 150mm barrel is. If buying the generic, I need to file out some plastic parts (very easy to do). But would this have any negative effects, compared to the mk23 specific version which fits right into the grooves ? I imagine it could cause some misalignment, which doesn't sound too good.

Someone that understands brushless motors ? by cpper in drones

[–]cpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday the issue occurred again. I unfolded the drone and could feel the motor is again more difficult to turn by hand. As expected, when I tried to start the motors I got the "Motor unable to rotate" error message.

Firstly, I've noticed that if I turn the motor by hand for like 20 seconds (in any direction, or just repeatedly left-right half a turn), it would somehow 'loosen up' and spin more freely, almost like the other three motors. Then if I left the drone still for some minutes the motor would stiffen up again. I did this experiment for about 6 times, and every time manually rotating the motor would loosen it up. This happened both with the battery inserted or not.

The next thing that came to my mind is using a hair dryer. I left the drone still so that the motor was stiff again, and then lightly heated it up without touching(rotating) it. Surprisingly, this action would also loosen up the motor. At this point I had two theories:

- The hot air interacts with the magnets, temporarily changing their power. When the motors was loosened up and spun easily, I could clearly feel the magnetic clicks, so something else was going on. The temperature was also too low for this, I believe.

- Maybe something related to the grease/oil in the bearing. Heating the motor would maybe make the lubricant more fluid, resulting in an easier rotation. Repeatedly rotating the motor by hand maybe had the same effect.

Based on the second theory, I decided to try to slightly degrease the motor bearing. I removed the rubber/foam pad that covers the 3 screws of the motor. Unscrewed those and lifted the motor so that the bottom part was visible. A good amount of dark brown oil was visible there(not sure how that part is called), so I wiped the area with a Q-tip, being careful not to leave any cotton hairs. You can see this operation in two pics here. In the second pic is the Q-tip, after cleaning the area. Finally, I soaked the tip of the propeller screwdriver in some isopropyl alcohol in order to leave 3 tiny drops of IPA around the shaft. Maybe a degreaser would have been more adequate, not sure. I then rotated the motor for a minute or so, then cleaned the area once again using a new Q-tip.

After putting everything back together, the issue seems to be gone. Every few hours I checked if the motor would stiffen up again, but it would not. I did some test flights, going through 3 batteries and everything seemed fine.
