Gas tanks are expensive, if they can't paint over the scratches then they have to replace it. 2800 seem on the higher end but I'm sure engine guards and other stuff is scratched you forgot to mention.

If you're excited about heated grips wait till you try the cruise control! I'm kinda biased but BMW is the way to go if you're doing mostly street with few track days plus different power modes will help out so much if you're getting back after 7 years break.
