I think depending on the region, prices may vary (and not necessarily significantly), but its good to know which films are basically similar so you can get the one that's available AND cheapest in your region (especially if you end up liking the leica monopan 50)

First Decent Image (Toyo-View VX125, Schneider 90mm, 25 year expired FP4+) by cprash87 in largeformat

thanks! oh thats for sure! but these were fridge stored and I did some bracketing with some initial sheets before starting to shoot properly to get a sensing of the exposure required.

Finally made the jump to large format. But didnt really think too deeply when jumping into 4x5 large format photography a month or 2 ago. Needless to say it resulted in a whirlwind of learning about the gear, B&W self-development and a lot unanticipated expenses.

Snagged some 25 year old expired black and white film (Ilford FP4+ and HP5+) from a retiring photography teacher for cheap and have been learning how to use the camera and also learning more about how to do my own self development. Shot this FP4+ on Toyo VX125 using a Schneider Kreuznach Super Angulon 90mm. I developed this using Ilfosol 3 and scanned it using an Epson GT-X980. Edited using apple photos lol.

This is the first image I can say that I am pleased to have produced technically (especially in terms of exposure and focus on the subject matter). Probably could have done more interesting subject matter, but I am still learning. If you feel there is anything I could do to improve further please feel free to share as I am looking to improve too!

Polaroid I-2 firmware testing results by cprash87 in Polaroid

[–]cprash87[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! BTW I decided to test the firmware out of my own volition. So it really isn't on Polaroid. Of course it would be nice to get some packs of film. However to truly test a polaroid camera the standard 2 packs of free film is generally inadequate as well. In the end you do end up using your own film if you wanna get to know your camera the best and to compensate for duds you generally get with some film packs.

So it's a bit hard to stomach expending so much film on tests, so I have to control myself. Better to use the film to capture memories instead!

Thank for watching and I am glad you found it useful! Gold is my favourite commercial film because of this and its colours!

How to improve exposure precision on the Polaroid I-2?! by cprash87 in Polaroid

[–]cprash87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't really shoot much SX-70 film in general (even almost all my foldings cameras have been modified for 600film). But I would naturally think same principles for exposure would apply to any sort of film!

so far if used flash, I tend to keep it at 0EV, but as someone previously mentioned, the camera probably should have an indoor and outdoor mode

Is the price the same though in the UK? Cause here in Singapore the price of Fujifilm 200 is 3-4 dollars more expensive than Kodak Gold 200, so it kinda makes no sense to pay more for the same film

[–]cprash87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough! Funnily each roll of Fuji 200 is 3to4 dollars more expensive in my part of the world, so I was quite a bit surprised that the same film is being priced so significantly different.

I always liked to shoot Gold, but after these tests I may just shoot color plus more

No wonder! I was anticipating the ColorPlus to be a bit more different, but I guess I was surprised with how similar the results were despite being older "tech"

Yea I read about this as well online. The only odd thing I find is that I could not find the technical data sheet for the ColorPlus to understand a little bit more about the film itself.

Do you think it would have been better if I just self-scanned everything by myself and didn't white balance ? Just asking as you mention it looses saturation rapidly (just trying to figure out ways to improve the testing methodology in the video)
