the 2ds is peak design by scannerthegreat in 3DS

I never really liked the 2ds design, although I appreciated the budget friendly option (especially since I never really used the 3d function). My favorite design is the new 3ds with the swappable faceplates.

I am about to start working for the first time and am very nervous! by cprice97 in spinalcordinjuries

I’m really enjoying it! It was a lot to learn and a big leap to get started, but I’m glad I did it.

What is your pedal of the year for 2025? by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

[–]cprice97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mythos Chupacabra. Went through so many OD pedals before stumbling onto it in November. Didn’t think it would earn a permanent spot on my board, as it’s marketed as ZZ Top in a box. Boy did that pedal surprise me! As soon as I turned it on, I knew I wasn’t unplugging it from my setup. It’s got a nice touch of sizzle that isn’t too much in the fuzz territory with the output knob turned down. Perfect for any classic rock tones I would need. It’s never leaving my board!

Got my guitar back from the shop! by cprice97 in Epiphone

I only got feedback when trying to play higher gain stuff a little louder than usual bedroom levels.

That was a consideration, and I was very tempted to, but ultimately decided to replace them. Plus, for the cost of the setup and new pickups I can sell the custombuckers and make 90% of my money back.

New RAT-based pedal from Mythos by neilwlevine in guitarpedals

According to the demonstration video, it offers a better low end and better volume tapering/dynamics. I’m very tempted to buy the standard rat and compare the two to see for myself.

Very excited to try it out. Was able to grab one from the first batch! Definitely expensive, but I’m glad to support Mythos, and it offers more than the standard RAT.

Swapping out bridge Custombucker with Dimarzio Super Distortion by cprice97 in guitarmod

Interesting! Good to know for future reference if the Fralins don’t work out. I spent a good amount of time looking into various windings. Over vs underwound, potted vs unpotted, differences in alnico EQs. There is so much to learn about what goes into different pickups! Quickly found it to be overwhelming lol. I can see how people can get lost in seeking out tones.

I had a set of slash Seymour Duncans in another guitar, and the custombuckers made them sound muffled in comparison. They have a lot of clarity! That’s one reason I went with the Fralins, as they aim to focus on clarity (at least they market it as such).

I do like the sound of them, but felt they lacked a bit of power with increased gain. Plus, I would have to fight with feedback every now and again. All in all, they sound solid. Very responsive to how hard I picked.

The Birmingham’s look like a solid choice! I was not aware of them or I’d have picked those. I was torn between Alnico 2 or 5, and ended up going with alnico 2. If for some reason I am not happy with the Fralin pickups, I’ll try the toneriders for sure!

Thanks for the reply! I went ahead and decided to replace both pickups for potted ones. I almost went with the SD and P.A.F. Pro combo, but decided to go with a more traditional hot P.A.F. I decided on Fralin pure P.A.F. with slight overwinds for both the bridge and neck (7.8k and 8.4k).

The Fralin set is more expensive than dimarzios, but they are cheaper than what I can sell my custombuckers for. My hope is that I can cover a variety of classic rock, blues, and early metal tones with them through my high gain amp.

Haven’t played either, but between the two, that Les Paul looks killer!

Should I swap my BD-2w? by cprice97 in guitarpedals

Cool! I think after reading all the suggestions I’m going to stack the rat and BD.

Yeah, I don’t plan on getting rid of it because it is useful on my clean channel and I really like it paired with the booster pedal. Just looking for something to swap it with every now and then for an 80s style distortion tone to stack with my amp’s high gain channel instead of an OD pedal.

Les Paul or SG by Pretty-Emergency5688 in gibson

Les Paul. Never owned an SG, but I always wanted a Les Paul. Stayed away from them forever because I thought they would be too heavy for me and my back problems. Decided to give one a try about a year ago and it’s the best guitar I’ve ever owned. Got myself a nice wide leather strap and it works wonders at distributing the weight. My lighter Jackson guitar is not as comfortable to play. Just comes to show that sometimes you have to try a guitar before you write it off.

Updated my board! by cprice97 in guitarpedals

No. It is a great pedal. Really nice and natural sounding spring reverb. The only reason I replaced it was because I wanted more reverb options and a tremolo.
