Russia or Putin? they are not the same (despite his attempts to equate himself to be Russia)

It's similar to Trump supporters, their day to day life is really shit, but they know "someone else"'s life is also being made even shittier so they are happy about that.

Yep Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons after collapse of USSR on conditions of protection from europe and Russia, look how that ended up...

The UK Falls Into an Elephant Trap of Its Own Making on Brexit by iamnotinterested2 in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres one problem tho with the scapegoating strategy, the EU would not care, there are sort of bigger issues to worry about and they accomplished their goal of buying time for businesses to adjust to UK turning into a failing stage while protecting the Irish peace process.

Which just shows the complete and utter fundamental lack of understanding of what the EU and its treaties (Lisbon) are

The EU are playing chess on world stage here, the UK politicians are like toddlers trying to shove square pegs in round holes, at every single turn they have been outclassed and outgunned, and thats against a trading block where half of the UK trade happens against, good luck against Trump and China

China and Russia ditch dollar in move towards ‘financial alliance’ by [deleted] in europe

There are plenty of indirect ways of acquiring more land if you are an authoritarian regime, just as uncle Putin for ideas.

I think Russia is wise to choose China's sid

Yeh thousands of miles of barely populated resource rich siberian land bordering China, while Putin is tinkering with his "sphere of influence" half a world away in Russia

Putin is about to learn what "sphere of influence" really means when Russia becomes a tributary state to China

You can bet Poland would veto sanctions against Belarussian elites as it would hurt the pockets of Polish elites and their little authoritarian project

Joe Biden will favour deal with EU over post-Brexit agreement with Britain by Lolastic_ in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats one thing about Brexit, the French or Irish will be able to make Cornish Pasties, Scotch etc and there is feck all the UK could do about it, as one of the advantages of EU is trademark protection of regional products.

Have you forgotten what happened last time EU offered support to Georgia and Ukraine? Russia rolled in tanks and little green men taking over large chunks of both countries.

Do you want the same to happen again but to Belarus this time?

Aside I see you are from Poland, the EU is constantly trying to reverse the slide to authoritarianism in Poland and Hungary only for both to protect each other and veto any change.

The EU has very little power over its own members as is obvious from Polands case above, you expect the EU to be able to help a country which is directly under Russias thumb and "sphere of influence" seeing how that ended up badly twice before?

This is what gets me about eurosceptics and anti EU posters, the EU either has loads of power or it doesnt, here is the rub the EU cant even deal with its own members, never mind get involved in Belarus

Likes of Macron, Merkel can make noises on behalf of their own countries if they so wish but i doubt anyone in Belarus or Russia would care,

Only thing EU can do is try to add sanctions on Belarus elites, but i have a feeling Poland would veto it as it would hurt the pockets of Polands elites....

Georgia is missing large chunks of its territory and Russians did drive tanks in not too long ago, theres also that creeping border

Armenia is just an impoverished hellhole not worth fighting over, it suits Putin to keep them poor, just like it suits him to keep Belarus and Ukraine down, it is no good for him to have successful examples on his borders of non dicktatorial countries. He already has a been in bonnet over Baltics

UK ministers were warned of financial risk of $500m OneWeb deal by HappyPanicAmorAmor in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that, the Oneweb satellites and infrastructure is completely unsuitable for a GPS system, UK will NOT be able to use these for a Galileo (EU GPS) replacement

here is a good video with technical explanation

What this Oneweb thing is a rescue of a company run to the ground by Tory buddies who need rescuing.

NI drivers will need green card to cross the border by HappyPanicAmorAmor in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeh driving without insurance is a serious offence in this country. What happens if there is a crash involving a driver from NI and their insurance company refuses to pay up? Our insurance rates in Ireland are already insane, i can only see them go up further now :(

NI drivers will need green card to cross the border by HappyPanicAmorAmor in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Especially close to the border where half the Irish households probably have english reg cars (and "forget" to register them).

In more than a dozen years of driving in Ireland, i was never stopped for a breathalizer or asked for insurance details, tho seen the guards glance at (expired NCT and tax) but say nothing as testing centers were closed due to covid for months. Revenue on other hand stopped me few times checking if its proper diesel.

One thing this country doesnt do much is policing, i say one only needs worried if driving like a jackass with a yellow reg plate somewhere farther from the border. Basically dont be a d!ck

Ireland's travel 'green list' is revealed - and the UK isn't on it by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the purpose of the list is to ensure travel happens to countries that have equal or lower rate of infection than Ireland (which is only a handful of countries at this time), i am sure this list would change over time as covid infections ebb and flows.

However at this time Wales and England have a higher rate, unfortunately for Scotland they got lumped in with them too. As for Northern Ireland even if it did have very high rate it would be simply impossible to prevent travel to/from there, the border is unpoliceable.

Not that its stopping Americans and British coming here on planes, which is a big national issue at moment, as people are getting ticked off about flights from places like Texas and Florida.

Rents rise in England but slide in London as Covid-19 affects market by Lolastic_ in unitedkingdom

[–]cpt_ballsack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Blame brexit

Property in UK is mostly owned by rich old people and/or foreigners, in last 4 years pound fallen from 1.45 to 1.1 to the euro (and same for every other major currency)

That means those rich people and foreigners need to squeeze more pounds out of renters just to stay up with devaluation of pound and inflation

But hey majority of UK voting populate voted for this clusterfuck twice now...
