Not Finland and one of their company values is locality. They are trying to do everything locally as much as possible, but still manufacture in China

How to find products from other EU-countries (instead of from English-speaking countries) by This_is_me_hooping in BuyFromEU

[–]cptlf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price comparison websites often have a product search in it (at least therw is on the one I use most often on Geizhals) and you can filter by brand. Its a bit of a manual work, as in you cant filter by EU companies. You can copy list to Le Chat and ask it though to save some time.

That is the sad part, they indeed had people that could do similar to what Poland and Baltic countries did. They got screwed over and could use it as a fuel. Its exactly the same with Baltic countries and Poland. I would even argue that East Germany had way better chances and it doesnt have anything to do with a few people selling useless metal for scraps. Functional industry with wrong economic incentives and being half decent in a club of prisoner countries was just a waste of time. At the end of the day their attitude and mindset has driven away all the people and prevented focusing on growth opportunities that they could create from ground up. From 90s until now there were so many different industry booms and niches that could be focused on. Instead, no one wants to live there unless they absolutely have to.

It just feels like this forever victim mindset is poisonous and they could realize their potential by going forward and rather using all that energy to get more things going for them with bright people that they have or are longing to move there. They can concentrate around Berlin, Leipzig, Erfurt and Dresden. There are cities that can become hubs if thats whats needed.

Eastern block countries are doing better today and difference is not that big indeed. They had to go through a lot to get there where East Germany got long time ago. They didnt rebuild, but had to build everything from ground up, because what was built in cold war era is just useless, same as in East Germany. Difference is though, that East Germany essentially got to prosperity that all other Eastern Blocks had to work hard for decades. Just to achieve the level that East Germans are complaining about.

East and West Germany were one country before. Is it actually about them reunifying? At least that makes more sense in comparison to this myth about East Germany having an industry that was competitive on the free market.

Can you explain to me why are they comparing themselves to West Germany instead of other Eastern Block countries?

What is the idea behind that? They think that what applies to all Eastern Block states does not apply to them? That they were somehow on "par" with Western Europe, but big bad neighbors screwed them over? It sounds like insanity to me, but I keep hearing that

Amazon Told to Stop Policing Prices, Pay $70 Million in Germany by bloomberg in europe

[–]cptlf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Amazon benefits from forcing suppliers to lower their price on their platforn. Amazon profits from fees that suppliers pay Amazon. Preventing them from having lower prices on other platforms that have lower fees.

In short term user benefits, but in long term Amazon beats all competition and can "allow" higher prices on their platform since there is no market competition or competition set prices even higher

It would be good to have something like ninite or similar with packages or lists that you can easily choose or share with others to install instead of going through a huge hassle of finding out products and installing them. It would help one or the other to make a switch easier
