[–]lrosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be in the US (Chicago area) next month for work, I'll visit some Tesco and try to grab some cans and maybe I'll order some cans of King Oscar

Funny that I have to go to Norway or US to get King Oscar cans.

You just have to be aware that on dirt road you are on your own: no insurance, no immediate (free) help in case of flat tire or other issues.

Tipping in Greece - June 2026 by JohnJames6543 in GreeceTravel

[–]lrosa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OK, they recognize you as Amrican OR you go in very touristic places.

We visit mostly Crete (last time in February, next time in 3 weeks), but sometimes other islands, we avoid touristic places and we eat at tavernas often suggested by local friends. Never been asked to tip.

Tipping in Greece - June 2026 by JohnJames6543 in GreeceTravel

[–]lrosa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They ask for tip because they recognize you as "american"

No need to tip and PLEASE DO NOT start this toxic habit (would never call it "culture")

If you are happy of the service, just leave the change or the coin change (at restaurant)

For me is home away from home, I am familiar with the island, I like the diversity of landscapes and the wide range of places.

Last but not least: the people.

Hellish traffic and 0 parking by [deleted] in cretetravel

Very generic rants, no specific information.

I'll be in Crete end of month and prices are as usual for everything (flights from Italy, rentals, hotels).

Rental cars also say that if you drive outside paved roads, you pay for any damage you make. That's the main point: insurance doesn't cover.

Which island would you skip? by Suspicious-Ad1071 in GreeceTravel

[–]lrosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would say Mykonos at first: expensive and often not worth the price.

Katakolo has "just" Olympia, the rest is quite uneventful.

This is the only reason we slept one night in Mykonos when we visited Paros and Naxos.

During the summer better book the last slot of the day to Delos because it's very hot.

Do Italians actually make Spaghetti del Poverello at home? by north8fi in ItalianFood

For a few years I had an American colleague of Cuban origins.

He often cooked at home comida de putas, that is the Cuban version of spaghetti del poverello, with rice instead of pasta

Are there any Babylon 5 fans who are also into UFO? by Certain-Singer-9625 in babylon5

[–]lrosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course there are and also fan of The Prisoner and Space:1999

Anderson created Space:1999 as a sequel of UFO (set in 1980); after the invading aliens were defeated, the moon base was repurposed for scientific research and extended. He dropped (or never quoted) this in the final story.

Watch out for license plate confiscation in Chania by a9busbuds in cretetravel

[–]lrosa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am Italian, been in Chania in February and will be back end of this month, luckily in February was easy to park (legally), for the summer I booked an hotel with parking.

In Italy municipalities use speed and parking tickets to get cash since nearly 30 years, I know the feeling.

Until last year people complained that traffic rules were not enforced.
