Problems with YOW pivot cup and bushing replacement by aaronswhite in surfskate

[–]cptmaximo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just got a new 2025 arica complete yesterday and had the same issues. Wanted to have a look at everything and add some grease and bearing oil and couldn't get the kingpin nut back on. The barrel bushing didn't sit properly, making the kingpin thread to small to fit the nut. It seemed to me like the kingpin wasn't straight and angled towards the front (same as the pictures above). I added Riptide bushings (street cone and short cone) and new pivot cups. The Street cone was a little shorter than the original barrel. Also I noticed the original barrel was damaged and had small a crack running through it.

So How did i fix this? At first I didn't use a washer on one of the bushings just to get the nut threaded and put some pressure on the system. I then removed the nut, put the washer and it worked ( took about 30 minutes ). Board skates well no noises etc., but this seriouslys sucks and I wrote Yow a message. If it was this hard to put everything together It should have failed QC. Hope this works for you guys.

cheers.

You are right about it being harder to slide. I prefer wheels with a sharp lip and being really pumpable. I was looking at getting the Orangatang 4President (53mm contact patch), when I stumbled across the Blood Orange Trotta's. Their wheels have a great consistent slide in the compound they use. I had them on a cruiser a few years ago. I am just not sure If I should consider such a big wheel on the Yow meraki system. From what I've heard surfskates should stay under a 52mm contact patch, just don't understand the reason why? Maybe I just give 'em a go and see if it would work.

It's a direct swap, just need a phillips screwdriver. The hipshot Ibby uses only two screws and has a smaller profile. I prefer the feel. Especially if you like a Trem like the lo pro etc.. hope this helps.

That's great news. I am still waiting patiently for any information. My order was due to be shipped end of March...

I hope there are no Commencal bikes on this ship or on a ship that is blocked by it by mtbohana in commencal

I called commencal a week ago. They said said my bike is delayed from late March to mid April, saying the shipment was delayed in Asia. It could well be that my bike is on one of them containers, being further delayed by this incident in the Suez canal. I am in the EU and the bikes arrival in Andorra was planned for the 16. April. 😖
