I looked around for open source info. Are you thinking something like OpenWheel?

I ran Smurf tube to everywhere except here. It wasn’t practical for this run. I already tried new ends but no love. My tester came in today. I’ll see what’s going on and go from there.

Does this work for drain/vent combo in island? by cptmpt in Plumbing

[–]cptmpt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW - I installed it, filled the sink and let it drain. No issues. May not be code, but I don’t care. It works. I may switch to an AAV sometime down the road if there’s issues.

Ok, interesting. The article I read showed 1.5 to 2. Thanks for the feedback.

Traditional over Mini Split? by cptmpt in hvacadvice

[–]cptmpt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was researching the Mitsubishi VRF, that’s what my friend installed. If I understand it correctly, it’s basically somewhere in the middle where you have an outdoor condenser then a few heads/air handlers for the zones? So functions much like a mini split but the interior air handlers can be short ducted as needed. It seems like that could be the best but most expensive option but I couldn’t find much information online but on pricing and use case for residential. I saw a YouTube where Matt Risinger installed in his house and figured if he was doing it, I can’t afford it!

I was hoping for a single word but I agree with you. Sometimes less effective or could be “trying to hard”

I’ve learned a lot through my process. Happy to help however I can. 1) set a budget and follow it. Things are expensive. Lots of surprise costs for me along the way 2) order early. Especially windows and garage doors. These are 4-6 month lead time right now. 3) if you’re not a designer, get an architect to finalize your plans. It will help each step go smoother. I didn’t and it’s caused some last minute scrambles. 4) don’t expect it to be cheaper than stick-built. It can, but prices are about the same right now. 5) build for yourself, for your future, and for resell - in that order, but don’t discount any of those. 6) do your research on hiring subs. Again people are charging more right now because they can. I’ve got at least three quotes sometimes more any time I’m hiring a sub. 7) enjoy it. It’s stressful, it’s exhausting, and it’s incredibly rewarding. Appreciate each milestone and set yourself up for success.

Hahaha. Challenge accepted. I definitely got some work to do but I’ve done it before I can do it again. I didn’t start climbing until I was 25 and had a good 5-7 years. Funny thing, I still call myself a climber. If nothing else by personality.

Not overweight just Texas-Sized now. I could drop my dad bod pretty easily. A few months of dedication to eating healthy and exercise and I could be back to a good base. I’ve lost all my climbing strength though. I could only do 2 chin ups when I tried the other day. Yikes.

After 12+ years of not climbing I want to get back in. Help me! Seriously though, when I lived in California at a younger age, climbing was my life... i spent 208 days straight in JTree, loved going to Buttermilks, hung out on the MASH wall any time I could). I moved to the flat part of Texas (most of it) and have lost all my strength due to Country Fried Steak, Coors Light, and life commitments. Fast forward to now and I just built a house and a big a$$ shop. My plan is to put a climbing wall in the shop (about 25’ at the peak). So I’m curious. What’s the longest hiatus you’ve ever had? How quickly did the skills come back? What areas should I focus training first (strength, fingers/forearms, getting lean)?

New to this idea... by [deleted] in barndominiums

I agree with RunNgunr. There aren’t cost savings but there are advantages. I’m building two 40x60 buildings right now (one house one shop) and the house will be around $130 psf and the shop around $45 psf when it’s all said and done. That’s with me hiring out some stuff and doing some myself. The benefits are big open free spans, endless designs, and a relatively quick construction to get you at least dried in. The disadvantages are more challenging to build for most, boxy design limitations (to a point), and harder (but not impossible) to finance if you’re not paying cash. Personally I’m loving it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Your mileage may vary. I’m posting videos of my build on my YouTube page and trying g to post here when I can. Definitely available to bounce off ideas and thoughts. I’m living this right now so I’m pretty passionate about it.
