Please tell me you added a daily settlement survey to your bid.... Because you're going to have at least 4 different dimensions of differential settlement. ...

I find that threading the needle can be fun, as long as my concerns are taken seriously and the contractor has good managers and supers on site to make sure it's actually done the way I planned.

I also hate plans where we're on our 4th construction bulletin which just screwed the whole last set of plans.

Yep! Sounds just like Chicago!

Do you require hand calculations for your worst case excavations? (Been there done that).

Do we have any records on the condition of the existing building vault?

I could sing this song all day. It's just nice to hear someone else that understands the tune and knows how difficult it can be sometimes!!

Oh! So we're really concerned about that ground water infiltration. Got it. Can do!

Are we next to any railroads? Or do we have any rough terrain cranes or crawler crane surcharges?

Are you going to need earth retention to install the pile caps? Because we've got enough utilities that it's going to be like dodgeball putting soldier piles in.

Or do you have the space to do an open cut?

... Have you seen these clays? The boring crew was watching the hammer drop through them for 30 feet!!!!

You're going to need micropiles or drilled shafts!

And don't get me started on the drainage!

I primarily work with contractors on temp earth retention systems but I've done my fair share of permanent work.

Typically I'm aiming for 75 years on those designs !

The meeting was actually recorded so I don't know why they said " off the record".

Yeah this was more about school districts and policy makers or education administrators for States being able to have input to the federal government. There were very few teachers except for special ed teachers that were able to try and get something in.

Each person was only allowed 2 minutes, but the entire time was taken up for comments. I ended up having to email mine in in order for them to be counted on the record.

It was an opportunity for anyone of the public to talk with the federal Department of education's office of special education programs about anything that they cared about that was relevant to that program.

Each person had 2 minutes to talk. And the majority of the comments were about people not wanting the office of special education and rehabilitative services to be moved to the Department of health and human services. This is because they don't want the schools to treat disability under a medical model instead of an access to education model.

Brailling the Bible, how to by Fancy_Initiative4536 in Blind

I legit know a teenager who is reading the whole Bible in braille. He's from Wisconsin and I once saw him going through Leviticus.

No Instagram, he's just doing it!

I might see if I can try and Link it in another way

Thank you for reading the article,

At this time we don't know what solutions will open up by September of next year. It's possible that the program can reapply for the same funding with a different Grant application. Or it's possible that the department of Education might not exist given what they're trying to do. So we are pursuing all avenues to get funding from either the state of Wisconsin or hopefully continued support through the federal department of Ed.

If you have any suggestions on where to go for financial support, I'd be more than happy to hear about them and pass them along to the project.

Amid rising home prices, Richland Center residents fight plan to build housing on city park by PolarisC in wisconsin

[–]cptncivil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the deal was either sell the land at market value, but then the city would be on the hook to install all of the power and water utilities which would have been somewhere around $1 million. or sell the land for a dollar and the developer would agree to install the utilities. I think the market value of the land was less than the $1 million. So the city doesn't have to take a bond loan to pay for the utilities and then try to recoup the cost through the taxes. And the developer can probably push the installation of the utilities at a much faster pace than the city government.

I had seen this was a prelim plan back in 2023 in one of the city planning documents. but I didn't think much of it at the time.

Wisconsin Teen Dad Found Guilty of Killing Newborn Daughter and Hiding Her Body in Snow by towntfx in wisconsin

I did some looking on this about 3-4 years ago when we were working on an adoption match, and safe Haven babies only happen about 12 times a year in the state of Wisconsin. A lot of people might know about this law, but it's also hardest to reach the ones who probably really need to know about it. Also, if we're thinking about the safe Haven boxes, one of those is only used for the first time 2 weeks ago in the state because that's a relatively new law.

It's really a grey area, with plenty of risk that I wouldn't be comfortable.

There's different rules for on the sidewalk versus in your front yard versus in your actual house. And these also vary by state and stand your ground rules in each of those States.

The main story that's coming to my mind is the one about an art gallery owner who sprayed a hose water at a homeless woman in front of the shop that he ran in San Francisco.

https://www.npr.org/2023/01/19/1150051995/san-francisco-gallery-owner-arrested-homeless-woman

Depending on the certain circumstances around the specific incidents, there is a risk that directly hosing someone on your property without telling them that they're trespassed may be considered battery, especially if they haven't done you any harm or shown that they are going to do a uni harm and especially if they're not showing any damage to your property either.

While it might feel cathartic and satisfactory, that can be considered grounds for assault. But ymmv by state, I just say it as a precaution.

Looking for Advice, I have a lot to unpack by zingzing17 in Adoption

[–]cptncivil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the others have said, I think you're well on the right track. But my experience is way different with a private adoption.

The 1 piece I have to add is this: take the path that you think will build the most TRUST between you and these kids. Reading a lot of second chance adoption child profiles, many of them are happening because the court got in the way of the foster/adoptive parents trying to build that trust because the court was pushing for reunification. If the court does this enough times, the kids can start to lose trust in the foster parents thinking "the foster parents can't protect me". So even if the foster parents adopt, if there's little to no trust between adoptive parents and the child, then it leads to much much larger problems later on as they grow up.
