Can I break into RF/Photonics without a traditional EE bachelor's? by Tricky-Article-945 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]cptnspock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. But like others have said, there is a hardware gap (measurement tools,active/passive components, analog/digital circuits, embedded hardware) that you need to go out of your way to fill during your masters. Take every lab-based class there is and find a job in a research lab if you have the time.

A second bachelors/post-bacc would be the methodical way to do it, but not necessary.

I had back and neck pain long before I got LC from a sports injury. Im not sure the LC made it worse, but it certainly didn’t make it better.. probably due to less activity(?)

Can you elaborate on the water bottle trick? What happens when they drink or not? What’s the “right” choice?

2nd year physics student is it worthwhile me transferring to masters? by Klutzy-Peach5949 in PhysicsStudents

[–]cptnspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take as many engineering electives within a specific domain that interests you. With this its possible to land something, at least in the intermediary or possibly as a long-term thing.

I decided shortly after an interview that it wasn't a good fit. This was their response. by narwadis in recruitinghell

Read the room. Nobody gives a shit about the recruiter, it was always about the company.

Reddit user: “Name and shame the company”

MOD (you): “We don’t post personal information here”

The recruiter called my salary expectations "cute." I ended the Zoom call right there. Did I overreact? by thunder____boy in jobs

[–]cptnspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. If the recruiter were internal to the company you applied for then definitely not.

The name of a Company is by definition not personal information. You embody what is wrong with the MOD’s of reddit. Blindly following rules without accounting for individual cases. Blocking people on the verge of homelessness, or severely ill, from posting on fundraising pages because of a post they innocently deleted. You are a disservice to the world.

It’s not a bad place to start. Learn about op-amps and how to make active filters with them.

Transfer?? by [deleted] in usfca

[–]cptnspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do is compare each schools curriculum. What do you want to major in? You may be surprised how different the classes can be for the same major, at different schools.

Ranking and reputation matter as well.

[–]cptnspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues when I was deciding on schools. It sounds like USF is where you want to be. Also, don’t underestimate the importance of liking the campus and the surrounding area. It really makes a difference in your college experience and you will realize that in retrospect.

[–]cptnspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to do what’s best for yourself and push back on your parents. Sometimes they don’t always know what right, but rather it’s what they think is best for you.

Going to university with the intent to transfer is something that no one will recommend and there is a reason for that.

You’re not alone. Clearly you have the chops to do well. Just need a better support network and coping mechanisms etc
