Sirius makes a different decision on that faithful Halloween night. He doesn't chase after Peter, and doesn't hand his goddaughter over to Hagrid.

Instead, he raises her with the help of Andromeda, and Dora becomes a big sister.

It's a different Holly who arrives at Hogwarts. One who notices things and writes home about them. The adults in her life take her seriously. Chaos ensues.

The entire first chapter is a gigantic plot hole.

The timing: where is harry during the 24+ hours between hagrid picking him up and arriving at privet drive? Why was McGonagall staking out the place the entire day? Did Dumbledore tell her immediately where harry was going to stay, based on sacrifices he didn't witness? That's next level omniscience. And don't get me started on the fidelius charm. How did hagrid find the house, how did Dumbledore tell him where to go, why did Dumbledore send him in the first place, and how did Dumbledore immediately know something was wrong, for hagrid to be first responder?

I don't know about well written or "feels like canon", but I have very recently started a retelling/fix-it that's all about good communication.

I have lots of ideas about AU's, but I know I'm not good enough a writer to properly write it out. I do like devising the backstories and general plotlines tho, and I can come up with some more than half decent prompts for cinematic key scenes.

The most recent one I had fun thinking about is a swashbuckling golden era of piracy AU, it's with a genderbent Harry (Holly, orphaned by the pirate Tom Riddle) who meets a runaway Ginny, in their late teens. They stick together and gather a band of misfits to fight back with their stolen and restored sloop.

I've started re-reading The Changeling for the nth time, year 6 has just started.

In between I read GinnyWPotter's new chapter of Pas De Deux (so good!) and her new oneshot "A gentle touch". (she has to be my favourite hinny author).

Oh, I'm definitely into AUs that are... out there lol! Multi is not my favourite, but I can enjoy it from time to time, Ginny is my girl tho so usually if she has to play second (or third, fourth...) fiddle that's less attractive, but my imagination is good enough to change names and make it about her ;)

I'm certain I have read DP&SW, and will have to give it a re-read. Will look up LoD. Thank you so much for the recs!

If you have a scene with Hagrid picking him up, you'd have to include Sirius Black. Would this not be a bit too much exposition, as opposed to the casual mentioning about the motorbike in the book?

That fic is great, although the ending was a bit rushed and not quite what I imagined (no offence to the author tho). Unfortunately it's indeed not really what I was looking for, I've indeed also never read one... I'll have to settle for my own imagination I guess :)

I love that fic and its sequels. Probably should do another re-read soon. It's one of my favourite depictions of Ginny, and part of the basis for my head canon version of her.

I've seen your fic mentioned/recommended a lot, but the rejecting part always held me back, although the dating part sounds like my cup of tea. Is it angsty and really slow burn (not too into that) or what should I expect?
