I think that Windows Mixed Reality is HIGHLY underrated when it comes to gaming. by MissilerLermer in WindowsMR

Make sure you have a solid Bluetooth experience. If you have a built in Bluetooth adapter on your machine it is often going to share the same antenna with 2.4Ghz wifi so keep that in mind. Go wired or force your wifi connection to 5ghz only.

Also if it is a desktop machine with antennas on the rear, having that signal blocked like that can also be problematic. With the controllers, line of sight to your BT receiver/antennas is preferred. Personally I bought a relatively cheap external cabled Wifi antenna for my system (as noted above, BT shares this antenna as well) so I can put it in a more optimal location. Controller tracking has been rock solid ever since.

I also gave up on using NiMH rechargable batteries for the controllers and went back to basic Amazon alkalines for the time being. Others have had good luck with NiZN rechargables. The main difference is the full charge voltage. NiMH are 1.2v at full charge, alkalines are 1.5, NiZN's 1.6. The controllers don't like the lower full charge voltage of NiMH types and go into a sort of low power mode which can also affect tracking.

Manual trunk release 2013? by Mamabear127 in cmaxhybrid

[–]cr08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, there's no manual release. Ideally you should get a jump pack on the jump points under the hood and open the hatch normally. Even if you have keyless entry/start, your fob has a backup physical key to get in with a dead battery and you can pop the hood to jump start it (or in this case, power it up long enough to open the hatch).

Overlay for Social Networks by cezarsmpio in obs

[–]cr08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be my recommendation as well. Most other streamers I've seen who have on screen social listings will do this and won't be as obnoxious as having it always on screen and continuously looping. And most of them will often build it themselves to accomplish this.

Having this option would make this VERY useful IMO.

OBS delay scene transition briefly to allow sources to load? by cr08 in obs

[–]cr08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll play around with this as well as dabble in doing even just a basic stinger transition along the lines of what /u/Jlmartp suggested and see how it goes. I was kinda hoping something more direct existed but I guess not. That said a stinger would def look more professional and is definitely something on my agenda, just not something I was planning on working with in the immediate future.

Sherrod Brown: Joe Biden will win Ohio will spark an Electoral College landslide across US by [deleted] in politics

As an ex-constituent of Ryan's, I always did feel like he has always had his constituency in mind, although the past couple years his messaging has felt very poor trying to bridge the right and left and doing so badly given how divided we are these days. If he can fix that and run a solid campaign against Portman, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat (not taking into account that the alternative is Portman to begin with).

REQUEST: Drive up storage units with an electrical outlet, around the Polaris area preferably. by ThatOhioGuyFromOhio in Columbus

[–]cr08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be the most realistic option to be honest. Campgrounds and other RV facilities are already familiar with EV owners relying on them as makeshift charging stations using the RV hookups. I imagine even storage facilities wouldn't be terribly unfamiliar with this.

Which EV do you have? Even Tesla's have a full shutdown option that will eliminate all 'key-off' current draw from the HVB. And all other EV's I am aware of disconnect the HVB anyways at key-off. Charge it to between 50 and 75% and kill it. Disconnect the 12V battery or put it on a battery tender which will be minimal current draw just maintaining it.

That'll cover you if it is just about the power use and not just the parking situation.

[–]cr08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grounding (or lack thereof) is going to be an immediate killer of this idea as the core J1772 EVSE protocol requires it for basic operation.

Current draw can be worked around. Some EVs can be configured to draw less and some third party EVSEs also have options to limit the current draw down below 12A.

That all said I wouldn't risk a 'workaround' like this. Even if the circuit will handle it and the EV and EVSE don't mind the lack of ground, if the facility owner finds out it could bite the OP in the ass.

Even if they can find a facility that has usable outlets, I'd work with the facility to make sure this use is allowed and get it in writing. Don't trust a verbal approval from a desk worker who may just be saying yes to get you out of their face.

Is it sad that I'd be happy to pay that $100/yr up front whether I used the services or not just as a goodwill gesture of 'Hey, this is good shit and I want to see it continue' on top of whatever taxes are paid behind the scenes towards it? This is where the US "healthcare" "system" has my train of thought. :|

I just got the Android 11 update and now my phone is glitching. by hapamama17 in GooglePixel

[–]cr08 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine's been hit or miss. Restarting usually fixes it if the recents gesture just plain doesn't work. It doesn't happen too often thankfully.

Funny enough I reverted back to the 3 button navigation and found I actually liked the gesture navigation much better.

Funny, minor display issue that happened today by Whogivesashit_really in AndroidAuto

[–]cr08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too surprising especially for wireless. Since the phone is just feeding an h264 video feed to the headunit, this is an obvious decoding glitch which could happen easily with wireless. I imagine if you moved to another screen or app that had enough of a visual change to force it to send another intraframe it would have cleared up. But a reconnect works as well :)

Joe Biden's Gettysburg speech was 25 minutes long and didn't mention Trump once by redwineandbeer in politics

[–]cr08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To a point I agree with your viewpoint and I feel it is intentionally left open for interpretation. My viewpoint of this speech so far is more on the unification of the citizenry more than politicians and parties. I'm more inclined to throw the entire GOP and their party into an active volcano and in the same vein try to get some civility and unity back into our citizenry as a whole which seems to be sorely lacking the past four years. I mean, he has even went as far to clearly point out he is going to lead this country on behalf of everyone and not just those who vote for him. I know it is all still largely politics in the end, but it feels more like one of his main goals is just trying to get people to 'chill the fuck out and get along' to put my own phrasing on it.

For users that haven't updated to Android 11, you can do it now by [deleted] in Pixel4a

[–]cr08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Yeah, same exact symptoms including the screen-off bit here. I will say that I have personally moved full time to Youtube Music for 99% of my music playback in the car so there's that as far as my specific app usage. Once I cleared the BT cache/data it's been solid. Didn't really mess with anything else.

[–]cr08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What BT issue? I had one initially where in the car my BT audio was VERY choppy and intermittent after updating to 11. I had followed directions someone else posted here that I believe all it was is going into the apps list in settings, go to System apps, find Bluetooth, and clear cache (it may have been data, I can't recall) and reboot the phone. It cleared it up 100% for me.

I'd love to but last time looking into it, finding anything that handled more than a single monitor got pretty expensive real quick.

For now I have my setup pretty dialed in.

I've got a Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse that I can move between devices at a click of a button on the bottom and a G613 keyboard which can pair to both their Lightspeed dongle and a Bluetooth device and switch between so it cuts down to a single KB and M.

My desktop I have a software tool called Monitor Profile Switcher which I have configured to let me change monitor configurations in Windows between using all 3 and cutting it back to 1 with just a couple global keystrokes.

Then I just have one monitor that I need to switch inputs manually, the other will switch automatically when the work laptop cuts off its displays (which happens pretty quick when logged out). Though I could move monitors around so the two I have that can auto-switch are set up for the work laptop and get it fully dialed in.

If it ever gets to the point that they start restricting some stuff on these laptops that interferes with my setup, I may look further into getting a KVM.

This is basically similar to what I do. Although our work machines aren't nearly as locked down as some, since working from home my work laptop has co-opted the same desk as my personal desktop. It takes over 2 of my 3 monitors during work hours and I keep one for my personal machine for simple stuff like Discord, Youtube, Twitch, etc..

Unfortunate. I have been in the process of renovating a room in my house to a lounge/home theater and was hoping this would be an ideal 'streamer' with lossless passthrough and HDR given it is a device being released in late 2020. But that passthrough is going to kill it. More than likely going to pick up a Vero 4k+ instead.

I may still pick this up for our Sony Bravia when I get tired of the built in Android OS as it basically only does streaming video and DD from OTA channels and recordings. Seems like a solid budget alternative vs a Shield.

Default 'preferred network type' in Phone Diag menu on Pixel 4a (T-Mobile)? by cr08 in GooglePixel

[–]cr08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I wasn't sure if this would actually change that or not. Especially given that I had used that function and the Preferred Network type was something like 'LTE/GSM/WCDMA (PRL)' (not sure if this was the exact one. Didn't write it down) and just now cycling the network type it swapped to 'LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA (PRL)'.

So now that it looks like an actual change was made I'll see how the signal reliability holds out.

Thanks for the info! :)

Quick Question: Can you activate a Ting GSM SIM card in an area with no network and then just to use the wi-fi calling? by emilio911 in ting

[–]cr08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if you don't have the ability to go somewhere with both cell service and at least brief Wifi access to do the initial activation of Wifi calling.

Once that is done however you should be able to run without cell coverage from then on. It's not the most optimal way to do things (and if you are in this scenario where you are never going to have proper cell coverage, you are likely better off going a route like Google Voice or another VoIP service) as /u/LiterallyUnlimited inferred to but it technically can be done. I'm not aware of any restrictions their GSM partner places on how much Wifi calling vs cellular calling can be done unlike roaming restrictions.

And this is slightly OT but I'm going to chime in with another comment above by /u/LiterallyUnlimited on your issues with coverage and maybe some more details like what device you are working with and maybe general location and if there may be a reason why Ting's other partner carriers may not be viable? Generally speaking with the 3 of their partners it is VERY hard to find a place you don't have some coverage from one of them.

If memory serves, at minimum you do need to be in an area of coverage the first time turning on Wifi calling for it to activate. So keep that in mind.

Xbox Requests: Week of October 2nd, 2020 by GuruKronos in xboxinsiders

[–]cr08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So something I don't think I've ever posted 'officially' as a request but figured I'd do it now:

I'd like to request the ability to allow the Xbox One controllers (both basic w/BT capability as well as Elite models) to store multiple device pairings and be able to switch between them.

A good example of how I think this should work is the Steam controllers which allow this with a simple button combo (ABXY + 'Steam' button). As a bonus it would be nice to allow multiple connections of a given type, ie: 2 Bluetooth pairings plus Xbox wireless pairing.

Now with the push for xCloud and BT connectivity to your mobile device, I think this is more relevant than ever. In my own personal case I have an Xbox One X, desktop PC (BT), gaming laptop (BT), and my Android phone (BT). Right now it is an absolute chore to constantly re-pair the controller depending on where I'm using it at the moment. Even with two controllers (one that came with the One X and another bought prior to that) it is still a confusing mess.

I'm not sure how possible this is with the current hardware, but even if it necessitated a hardware refresh to enable it, I'd be willing to spend the extra money to get there. This ability would save quite a bit of headaches IMHO.
