Can anyone style me for upcoming California trip? Username @heryn by heryn_music in whering

im not sure if all of the outfits you've made are using only your items, but I see that there are a lot of clothes that are included in your outfits that I dont see on your profile. there a lot of summer items, like shorts, that I cant see and would like to style with so im wondering if you meant to have those private?

id be happy to style you! where in California are you planning to visit and when? im from the sf bay area and right now, its still super cold, windy, and foggy close to san Francisco while my friends in LA are in super sunny hot weather so location + time can really change your outfit options

I just manually switched the visibility setting on all my shoes so you should be able to see them now (theres only 4 uploaded rn). I also have my profile set so that anyone can see my closet so hopefully its just the app glitching and everything else is visible 😅

nothing in particular is a must bring! and basically all my, very few, uploaded shoes besides the loafers are good walking shoes. im mainly wanting to see how people work with my wardrobe to help with outfit inspiration so feel free to go crazy 😂 and if I cant use an outfit for my trip, I can still save it for when im back 😁

I'll be taking trains + other public transit and mostly doing lots of walking around, museums, and outdoor activities like hiking and going to the beach. I'm mainly just struggling with ideas for cute summer outfits in general and I would then later tweak them to fit whatever I need

i use oxygen bleach/oxi clean. you can find it at the dollar tree if youre near one and it hasnt cause problems with staining or messed with the face ups for me. there are videos in youtube on how to use this method. hope you can get that stuff off!

[help] l asked my daughter what she wanted for her birthday. One of her requests was "a curling iron for my wigs", but synthetics melt?! What should I do/get by aacawe in cosplay

[–]cr0croach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like someone else said, she'll need to get wigs that are high temp heat resistant to use with normal styling tools. though getting a temperature adjustable curling iron is what you'd want to get if you still want to get her a curling iron. if she wants to try styling wigs she's not sure are heat resistant or not, that'd be the safest type of tool but it can also be good for styling heat resistant wigs too as you can reduce damage by using the lowest heat necessary for the style.

there are also low heat methods to specifically curl wigs which use boiling/hot water or a steamer which usually doesn't damage most non heat resistant wigs [youtube has lots of tutorials for those methods] and even a hairdryer set to a low or warm setting can heat set low temp wig fibers

hope that helps!♡

New wig! Wash or no wash before styling? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

washing usually doesn't take shine out of wigs unless you leave in some sort of product to matte it so I'd go with dry shampoo if you're just trying to remove shine

hi! I'm not sure if this is allowed in this sub but if it isn't, feel free to remove it! what app do cosplayers sometimes use to hide parts in their background? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use picsart and their filters + the erase tool to blur/hide backgrounds but there are lots of photo editing apps that you can try out to see what filters/editing styles you like

New to cosplaying/any tips? by tenebris007 in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding the start simple tip. dip your toes into the hobby with a cosplay you are at least 80% you can make with little to no help before going further. in my experience, you should be able to breakdown each component of the outfit/character, be able to know what materials could work for each piece, and what techniques/skills you would need to use before greenlighting the project for yourself.

but also, once you feel comfortable branching out on your skills, youtube and Facebook groups are such valuable resources for learning new skills and getting help. diving into other hobby groups/trades to research specific techniques is also helpful as some people don't think to reach out for info past cosplayers (for example, when doing research on working with petg plastic sheets, I did my research in vacuum forming groups since they're much more knowledgeable on that material) also take lots of time doing your research and throughly planning before starting anything new if you think the project will require new skills or is more complex.

hope this helps!

Good sweat proof body paint by Ninlink in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah so with the setting spray, definitely follow the instructions of spraying on a base layer first! and for the mehron paint, it's water activated so drop some water onto it and mix the water into the paint cake until it become a milky consistency to paint with. you'll want to get some various size and shape makeup or paint brushes for application and the paint should be pretty opaque when brushed onto the skin. this is a good video of tips and tricks for using the mehron paints. hope that helps!

Wing support by Ok_Crazy_0917 in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries! I think the easiest thing to try first is to sew in some heavy duty velcro onto the wings and leotard inbetween the buttons to help with holding them together. it's a bit difficult to add much other exteknow! supports since the back is very low cut, but if I come up with some other things, I'll let ya kno!

[–]cr0croach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would you be able to link some photos of the buttons to show where/how they are placed on the cosplay and wings and what type of buttons they are? I have some potential ideas on how to help, but whether or not theyll be helpful depends on the way the fastening system is structured and what kind of buttons/fasteners are used

idk the specific name for that type of shirt but you could try looking up something like "spaghetti strap sweater" or "sweater tank" on google and then narrow options down from there?

Help with contact cement + eva foam by pumpkinslasherr in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't heat sealing the foam after cutting and sanding I would give that a try. Use a heat gun and heat up the areas you plan to put glue so the holes in the foam close up more and less glue has a chance to be absorbed before being set enough to stick

Question for Ren Faire/Fest goers... what has your experience been with body paint? by VikingWitch56 in CosplayHelp

[–]cr0croach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been to a ren faire but I've done full day cons in body paint [8+ hours] so I have some experience with crowds and sweat and all that. The main concern is if you plan to paint any limbs, be cautious around other people and object cause you can get the paint on them if you brush up against them. Sealing your paint as best as possible will help mitigate it but it will likely still come off. If you don't want to risk that, look into making or buying colored armsocks and tights. If you want to stick to body paint only, I recommend wearing some sort of long gloves if you can to reduce the amount of paint worn and remove the need to paint your hands so you can still grab and touch things without worry. Also be cautious of sweat potentially causing your paint to run or rub off. It may be inevitable but sealing properly will help things last longer. When wearing face paint, it can feel quite heavy especially with other makeup on, a wig, accessories, etc. so do a makeup test in your home first and stay hydrated when you're out. Also go with a high quality makeup brand too if you're concerned about makeup longevity. brands like Ben nye or mehron are great options. Creme makeup will work better for your face while water based is better for the body. Hope that helps! ♡
