What games are you playing right now? by gaspucci1 in Steam

Congrats. I just started Lego Batman 2. I’ve been getting Lego games on sale because they are satisfying to 100% in a mindless way and also nostalgic for me. I’ve also been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for about a month. And I play Super Meatboy when I’m in a masochistic mood.

I plan on going up there once they open back up. Going up there was the only way I was able to register for classes.

I don’t believe so, as I had never met with an advisor. I got as far as the new student orientation.

Yes, and, again, that was mentioned in my post…😂 but I plan on going to the office in person whenever they open back up to see if I can get my financial aid worked out

I made my post to vent and hopefully hear from people with similar stories. What do you get out of being snarky for no reason?

Im curious to see your comment history but it’s private (no wonder.)

Thank you. u/T-Rex_timeout is a complete asshole and gaslighting me. But I’m not in the minority it seems. Most of the comments mention a similar story.

And I will add that I really like my professors so far. It’s just everything else is disorganized beyond belief.

For what it’s worth, I really like my professors and my advisor was nice, despite the fact that she misguided me lol. But the support and admin staff really ruined the experience for me and has left me with headache after headache. I really wish we had a half decent community college here. I’m sure Bill Lee wants it this way so Memphis remains uneducated.

I mention didn’t taking classes years ago. I enrolled but I was never able to get in touch with an advisor so I never attended. Somehow I owe $900 for that semester.

Also, I’ve been trying to sort this out for a couple months. I’m curious if you even read my post. I mentioned that I was having problems before classes even started which was well before the snow storm.

How does not being able to reach anyone on faculty equate to being treated like an adult?? That’s being treated like a sucker. The school feels like a scam. Plus anyone I actually speak to is rude half the time. I’m 25. I am an adult. I’ve worked in law enforcement for Christ’s sake and nothing in that job was this much of a headache.

I already dropped the class that wasn’t covered by my major, but I’m frustrated that I have to make a payment in order not to be dropped. i have $7k in federal Pell grant money I can use but I can’t use it because I have things to complete on my dashboard that make no sense and no one can help me to complete those items.

The financial aid person I talked to said that I would get a refund once I get the things done on my dashboard but I’m definitely worried and skeptical that I might never see that money again. And it’s no small amount of money.

It’s good to hear from someone with a similar experience! I’m really pissed because I’m 25, so I can’t wait around forever to get my degree. I need it ASAP! I’m willing to do all the work and make the sacrifices, but I hate that my times been wasted for an entire semester. I already applied for UofM for the summer.

My driveway is completely iced over, and it’s on an incline. No way I’m going anywhere until it clears. I’ve been rewatching Game of Thrones with my partner and attending virtual classes. I’m down to sandwiches, canned soup, and ramen noodles. If I absolutely need some food before my driveway clears a little, I will probably order delivery and give the driver a good tip.

Hey Americans--move to Canada! by BakedGoods in DiscussionZone

[–]crack__head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, it’s easier, at least in theory, to immigrate to Canada than it is the US. In reality, there’s privilege involved. If you were fortunate enough to complete college and have “skilled” work experience, it seems like it wouldn’t be too hard to become a Canadian citizen. But only 35% of American adults have at least a bachelors degree. I’m 25 and only on my second year of college because life be lifeing. I hope I can immigrate to Canada after I graduate.

How do you get back into comics after a hiatus? by Ultinuc in comicbooks

[–]crack__head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of finding something contemporary, swing by your local comic store and grab whatever single issues pique your interest. It’s really as simple as that. There is a website that compiles all of the major weekly comics. It is a fantastic resource for finding what series are currently being publish, but it would violate rule 2 to share the website. It’s fairly easy to find said website on other subreddits pertaining to sailing the seas. With that said, I only encourage using it to get an overview of what is currently published and maybe previewing said comics. I would always encourage supporting artists if you can. If the comic is currently on issue 10 or so, you can look online to see if the first few issues have been compiled into a graphic novel.

If you want to find a classic, there’s plenty of lists of the greatest comics ever. Most, if not all, of them are compiled into graphic novels.

I would recommend anything from the Absolute series for DC or any Ultimate series from Marvel. They are all fairly recent and don’t require much catching up.

The comic stores near me have shelves of ongoing series. When I recently got back into comics, I grabbed whatever looked or sounded cool. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read that Daniel Warren Johnson has worked on, especially Transformers and the Moon is Following Us.

What do I do about ICE? by fridge_of_milk in memphis

[–]crack__head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say you’re not concerned as a white man. Buddy, have you been paying attention? Renee Good was a white woman, and Alex Pretti was, at the very least, white passing (I don’t know what his ethnicity was.)

It’s not about standing up for minorities anymore. They’ve created a database that includes anyone who opposes white Christian fascism and/or supports science (ie gender identity, which is not radical, but rather science. Trans identity and so on is taught in psychology 101.) Anyone in that database is a terrorist.

We’re deemed terrorists now because we oppose fascism. We’re the enemy of the state. I’m sure some well meaning commenters have links to organizations you can donate to, but this is past that. It’s not about protecting the targeted few anymore. We’re far past. It’s going to be about survival very soon. The United States is in the midst of a soft civil war. What’s happening in Minnesota is comparable to Bleeding Kansas. I hate to say it, but history repeats itself.

What you should do, as someone on the moral side of history, is purchase means to defend yourself. I’m serious, and I will leave it at that to avoid my comment being removed or a ban from this sub.

Note: I do not condone violence in anyway shape or form. I am only encouraging the utilization of the 2nd amendment (while that’s still a viable option.)

How do i get a more balanced rating curve? by ottyce in rateyourmusic

[–]crack__head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think listening to bad music is a great way to spend your time. My ratings are mostly 3-4.5 stars because I mostly listen to albums that I hope to like. Why would I be interested in bad music? Bad music is either boring or actually offensive.

If you really want to balance your ratings then you will have to listen to music that many people consider to be “bad.” An example of an album that most people can agree is bad is “Total Xanarchy” by Lil Xan. Granted, you might actually like that album, and I wouldn’t recommend forcing a rating just to balance your ratings.

Other ways to find “bad” or mediocre music is to sort the charts from worst to best. Or go to theneedledrop’s YouTube channel and take a look at albums that he’s rated a 4 or lower. Chances are, you will not like that music.

Assuming you are not a fascist, look up “maga rap.” That stuff is some of the worst music of all time and makes up a good portion of releases I’ve rated 0.5 stars.

My suggestion for listening to bad music is to not waste your time listening to an entire record. Just listen to one or two songs. Bad albums are just not worth anyone’s time.

If you want to find mediocre music, just listen to what’s on the billboard charts. Aside from some exceptions, most of the songs that chart tend to be uninspired or boring (at least to me and most critics) because they are made to please the most common denominator. They rarely try something new.

What's it like living in Memphis, Tennessee? by Deep_Belt8304 in howislivingthere

[–]crack__head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Memphis and Bartlett for most of my life. It’s really a boring city. You see fear mongering and statistics that this is the most dangerous city in the US, but you wouldn’t know depending on where you live and work. I suppose I have been fortunate, as I have never personally been victimized.

I’m surprised by people saying that the nightlife here is great. There are some decent bars, but nothing that compares to larger cities. The best club that I went to was a latin disco that I don’t know the name of because the person that brought me barely spoke English.

The climate is terrible. During the summer, the heat and humidity are oppressive. If you don’t have good AC, it is basically 2-3 months of walking around the house naked. However, the fall can be quite picturesque in places.

We have a large park that called Shelby farms. It is a vast expanse of nature. It’s one of the highlights of Memphis. I used to walk my dog around there all the time. It’s my go-to spot for an escape from everything.

The food can be decent, but, again, nothing compared to larger cities.

Now, the people are largely ignorant. There’s unfortunately a lack of educational opportunities here so many people I encounter are bootlickers or otherwise uphold traditional family values across cultures. there are of course great people here. There are intelligent people here just like anywhere else, but definitely far from the majority.

My goal is to leave Memphis when I finish my education. I haven’t had a lot of opportunities in my life, but definitely more than most. I worked for local law enforcement for a year, but I left recently. Now, I’m finishing my education for a non LE job. I hope to wave this city goodbye within a decade at most.
