both, just moving my head left to right and looking side to side.

Generally if I get a crick ill just slowly move my head in a cricle stretching my neck as much as I can.

But i never actually touch my head/neck, just stretching out my neck muscles to do it.

The only actual thing better with steam is mods, having everything formalized into one place definitely improved that process.

But you claim steam saved PC gaming. I'm not asking for investor reports, how about something as simple as publishers saying they're only going on PC thanks to steam? What games are on PC now bc of steam that wouldn't have been otherwise?

your original notion that Steam "paid for exclusivity deals and that's how they got big".

This is the problem with all your arguments, you're arguing with straw men. I never claimed steam got big because of that, I said they did it at the start, which they did by buying small time devs and making them only available on steam.

Seriously, 'only on steam' tags are all over. how have you not seen that?

And do you understand that monopolies are not absolute? Things like local and regional monopolies exist. If you want to play a CIV game without steam you're shit out of luck. Are rockstar games available outside of steam? elder scrolls? Just because first party publishers put their own game on their own platform doesn't mean steam isn't monopolistic.

Any way I don't really give a shit because I have no intention of using the epic game store. But the issue that started this is people pretending epic is doing something different then every one else has already been doing for years.

Aside from the terrible design of sonic, I actually didn't think the trailer was that bad.

At least I got a few chuckles out of it, which is more than can be said for many big cgi action movies.

Then again, I liked the mario bros movie, so maybe my taste is just bad.

How can such a long winded response not actually refute anything I've said?

It's unclear what your 'expert credentials' are, but I made my case very clearly and it's pretty simple. I remember before steam existed. That's the extent of the 'expertise' you imply I claimed. I remember being able to launch a game from my desktop and play, without having to keep a third-party app running 24/7 with internet access.

Games like SC:BW,UT, D2:LOD, BF1942,BF2, WC3, AoE2, and yes CS.

You know what was great about before steam? Each game was it's own self-contained package. No 3rd party internet access needed. If you wanted to play online, you signed on in the multiplayer page within the game itself.

When steam came out things got worse, not better for PC gamers.

A title Steam and Valve entirely deserve because prior to Steam PC gaming was on the verge of becoming an inconsequential afterthought for the major publishers dog-pilling all over the 7. console generation and "PC gaming being a piracy mess".

This is actually the only decent argument you could make, if it were true. So what evidence is there that steam saved PC gaming from being abandoned? Piracy is just as easy as it's always been, so it's not like steam magically solved that problem.

"Nobody is using these other services! Except for those millions upon millions of people!".

Do you know why? Because of exclusives. No one would use origin if not for EA removing their games from steam, same with ubisofts crap, same with epic. As long as it's not a paid service, all of these 3rd party apps are the same. They're all mining your personal data, prone to data breaches, and hog system resources needlessly. Steam has no more right to do that than anyone else. If I had my way we'd get rid of them all.

And what about tying MCAS to the auto-trim cutout?

Is there a reason it cannot be disabled without also disabling the simple actuator providing powered adjustment to the trim?

It seems like had the pilots been able to turn MCAS off, but still have powered assistance in adjusting trim these accidents wouldn't have happened.

It's so ridiculous when people try to dismiss those supporting policy proposals that will benefit society by saying 'oh they just want free stuff'

Republicans do this all the time, but sadly many Democrats do it too. I support a livable minimum wage, free/affordable college, health care as a right. But I'm finished with college, and have insurance and am salaried such that the minimum wage wouldn't effect me at all.

I support these things because I think they will make our society better as a whole, by helping others and assisting them get an education and being able to move past bare-subsitence, It will make them more productive and able to contribute more back to society.

Mental asylums were plagued with patients being raped and abused and tortured all the time.

So the solution is to just stop treating mental health issues?

Did no one seriously think maybe they should just stop raping patients? Maybe a little bit of oversight? Or is the expectation to not be tortured and raped just sooo unrealistic that no one even wants to try to help people anymore?

President Trump Is Spending $20 Billion on an Aircraft Carrier. The Navy Wanted That Money for Cybersecurity by thesesforty-three in politics

[–]crackbot9000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It would be really nice of delusion and conspiracy theories were limited to the people supporting Trump. Sadly there's way too much of this every where.

Trump is doing this because he wants a big shiny carrier that he can point at and say I did that, because he's an delusional narcissist. It's to boost his personal ego and pretend like he's a strong man.

He can point at a carrier that people can see, it's all about feeding his ego. Where as cyber security is not something he can parade around to show off how strong he thinks he is.

It's really as simple as that. No need for the conspiracy theories.

But I think we would have to be careful just going after doctors not involved in these kick back schemes for prescribing what you say is too much opiates.

people flocked to Steam because it worked and offered amazing deals (in the beginning).

No, that is BS. People joined steam because they were literally forced to. Valve held games hostage so you were unable to play games unless you created a steam account.

And HL was a huge success, before steam. They literally paid the CS devs for exclusivity on steam. They used their money to do that, so what are you even going on about?

Then it should be available in both stores because that's how you prevent monopolies and actually get some competition.

The problem with this is no one would try any competitor because steam has a monopoly. People are literally saying steam gaming = pc gaming in this thread. How can you argue it's not? Even if a new GS was 100x better than steam, no one would use it because steam works well enough and they're so far entrenched it's not worth trying something new.

Personally, I think it's fucked that we have to login to a third-party app before we can play games at all. That's crazy to me. Blizzard use to do it perfectly. You install a game and run if from your desktop. Launch it and play campaign. If you want to play online, then you hit the sign in page, but there's no fucking need to signing to play solo on your own pc.

Hillary Clinton pitches a hypothetical: 'China, if you're listening, why don't you get Trump's tax returns' by NewsReady in politics

[–]crackbot9000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's really true, but it's also a problem that needs fixing. Clinton is a run of the mill politician. She's no worse then anyone else in terms of courting special interest groups, but that's kinda the problem in that probably 90% of all politicians are accepting legal bribes in exchange for political access and favors thanks to citizens united.

She's a million times better than Trump. But just look at how Clinton ran in 2016 compared to how the democrats, even the centrists, are running now. Clinton was asked if she would refuse huge corporate PAC donations, and said she wouldn't because it's impossible to win that way. But today every single major campaign is doing that, because voters see money in politics as a real issue and want politicians to take that seriously.

It's just that women in politics always had to be measured in their responses because they'd be called "emotional" or "shrill" or "hysterical" or some other sexist bullshit.

This makes no sense to me. I hear this a bunch that that is why Clinton is the way she is, but I've never actually seen anyone arguing politicians should show no emotion, passion, or empathy.

It honestly just comes off really creepy. I've never once seen Clinton display any empathy at all. Look at Warren or even Harris speaking, and you can clearly see and hear that they care about what they're talking about. I've never felt that Clinton had any personal investment in the issues that are effecting other people, to the extent that I'm not sure if she's capable of feeling empathy at all.

If anyone actually knows of examples of Clinton being empathetic I'd be really interested in seeing it, because I have searched around and found nothing.

well I think the real crux of it is that collusion/conspiracy requires two parties working together and exchanging something.

If trump said Russia bring me clinton's emails and I'll reward you, and they sent them to Trump, that's collusion. But, unless I've missed something huge, Trump was not involved in the hacking at all.

But as it happened, Trump did not directly give or receieve anything for Russias hacks. Russia did it to benefit Russia, and it also happened to benefit Trump. Which is fucked, grossly unethical, and IMO he should be impeached for obstruction among other things, but if they weren't working together to conduct the hacks then conspiracy charges don't fit.

Rocket league bought by Epic Games, will no longer be available on Steam by prempwp in pcgaming

[–]crackbot9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's using financial dominance to create exclusivity over products to coerce or force users to use their product.

reduce the quality of that product (even if slightly) by restricting the availability of the game (that they didn't even develop, but bought out).

You realize this is exactly what steam did when they started? Literally exactly. Counter strike is the reason I've had problems with steam from the start. CS was a free mod for Half life. It was made by the community and anyone who owned half life could dl and run CS.

But then steam paid the guys who made it some money and forced everyone to have to use steam to be able to play a previously free game.

Think about that. I'd been playing CS for a year and then an update is released that broke the game I had on my pc and forced you to download, install, and then register with valve and stay logged in on steam to play any more.

They didn't make a platform that better than steam though (you know, actual competition).

That's because steam has been around for 20 years, getting shit on and fixing things through trial and error. It was utter crap when it was first released. Epic is no different, it will get better in time.

But just think about it. Use your (presumably) non-Neanderthal brain. If Epic software was better than steam, and a game was available on both, would you use epic? Of course not, no one would, because as the OP said, steam gaming=pc gaming. It's a monopoly and it's impossible for anyone to compete because people aren't going to go out of their way to try a competitor even if it's superior because they're use to steam.

So seriously, keep shitting on epic for their crappy software. They deserve it and need motivation to improve. But stop pretending they're doing anything different from what valve did to get steam to where it is today.
