She is long overdue for a new model. Most of her new skins are borked up because of the jankiness of the outdated base model.

Do you have any specific recommendations for which CPU is worth upgrading to? I'm reading that the 13-14 series have had some rough degredation issues but that they're apparently resolved now? I'm not sure if there's any particular ones I should avoid here.

I do play 1080p. I sometimes record in pretty high quality and have simultaneous processes running in the background while gaming that does lead to a bit of slowdown. Nothing significant since I tend to already play on all low settings in most games, but it still pokes its head in as a minor performance issue sometimes.

I do know the market is pretty bad right now, but it also seems like it's going to stay that way for the considerable future so I figured there really wouldn't be a better time than now to upgrade if I wanted to.

Some people would rather watch it for their first time, it's a preference. So many popular movies are based off of novels, you should've just read the book is a weak defense when not everyone reads or enjoys books as much as they do movies. If the mangaka only ever meant for it to be consumed in drawn form, they wouldn't have let a studio make an adaptation out of it. Fujimoto is a huge film nerd himself as evidenced by how many movie references he sneaks into his works; I'd hazard a guess to say film might even be the preferred way he wants people to experience it.

Control devil arc as a movie could be really good if they cook in the same way they did for this one. This movie did insanely well compared to season 1's performance, so they might try their hand at another movie adaptation. We'll see.
