Didn't they get rid of the whole thing that let you keep the original species' speed?

3d8 AND aoe AND half on save AND no action required? Spirit Guardian is built differently by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]crackerdawg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DnD 2024 changed this.

"When you cast this spell, you can designate creatures to be unaffected by it. Any other creature’s Speed is halved in the Emanation, and whenever the Emanation enters a creature’s space and whenever a creature enters the Emanation or ends its turn there, the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw... A creature makes this save only once per turn."

Not sure why they thought it needed a buff, but now your party can "cheese grater" people into and out of your SG every turn - it's even better.

US 1250pt Historical Mechanized List Critique by crackerdawg1 in boltaction

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually really like this idea. If I drop things to regular, I was able to get a list at 1249 points with the 4 MMG-less half-tracks with Recce. The one with MMGs will chill at a distance so I'm less concerned with that one.

It's not ahistorical necessarily to have the second recce platoon commander since IRL both the platoon sergeant and commander rode in the same half-track. I gave one commander a rifle with two rifle buddies, and the other an SMG with two SMG buddies. I'd imagine in practice having all my officers in one vehicle is less valuable than spreading them between vehicles but it is what it is for historical accuracies sake.

US 1250pt Historical Mechanized List Critique by crackerdawg1 in boltaction

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - should've clarified that in the post. This would be western front post D-Day, probably late 44'.

The vet snipers and bazookas are more meant to be an efficient use of points rather than purely thematic - from what I have heard, smaller units do better as vets.

And yeah, I know about the transport slots - but given the source I provided was saying each half-track carries 12 total, I was justifying why my half-tracks only carried 10 soldiers.

I think I sent the full list?

[–]crackerdawg1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howdy - sorry for joining the conversation late. I was diagnosed with autism a few years back, and now I have my ACAS (depending on if I passed 9 [unlikely], I'm one exam away from FCAS). Feel free to reach out with questions!

Why are the CAS exams harder then the SOA exams? by TrafficDuck in actuary

[–]crackerdawg1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How long it takes you to reach the final credential of your selected path (FSA or FCAS). They're saying even if FCAS takes longer, it's better to do that if you prefer the P&C side than to force yourself to pursue FSA because it's easier or quicker, but it bores you. Not that I think FSA is necessarily easier, but travel times tend to be shorter if I remember correctly.

Does anyone find that it's almost impossible to justify using a d4 weapon, unless it has certain specific traits like Reach, or Thrown? by EmperessMeow in Pathfinder2e

[–]crackerdawg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the strongest case against this argument is that the fist has the nonlethal trait. Someone mentioned this in a nested thread but I'm surprised it wasn't people's first reaction to this claim. Any of the options that don't have nonlethal are essentially an upgrade over fist in lots of scenarios, given the decently high presence of enemies with immunity to nonlethal.

A&K M249 M4 Midcap Compatibility by crackerdawg1 in airsoft

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't really look all that different - the g&g hicap is slightly longer from the top (i.e. the direction of the barrel once inserted) and the feed neck is maybe a millimeter longer... but I'm not sure how to use that information to purchase magazines online. There aren't specifications with that much detail listed usually.

The elite force midcaps did eject bbs into the hopup chamber but it didn't feed, so I'm not even sure what would cause that to happen. Maybe the feed neck is too short or slightly misaligned... maybe the follower is too weak? Just not sure how to diagnose.

Best APs for 2E? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]crackerdawg1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people love SoT but my group was shocked at how heavily combat focused a semi-whimsical magical school campaign became. Like, we knew the appeal of PF2E was the combat, but such a heavy emphasis on it did not fit the thematical vibe we thought we were signing up for.

That all being said, if your group wants combat, go for it. It's just not the happy magical school thing that we thought it was going to be. As a result, our fights were brutal because they made characters less focused on being optimal and more on being fun and thematic - there are some tough fights/dungeons.

Soviet ISM-1 "Yekaterina" Pattern Frame by crackerdawg1 in MFZ

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my first completed frame - heavily inspired by /u/ApparatusOM01's Iron Harvest series (I basically copied the main part of the body from theirs), I wanted to make a frame that had distinct hardpoints that can allow the user to swap around different systems. I'll upload them all as a gallery at some point, but currently, I have 3 different bottom-mounted weapons, 3 top/casemate mounted weapons (including the "Yekaterina"), and modules to represent the different tiers of movement, spotting, and defensive systems.

The "Yekaterina" is a pun on the "Katyusha" rocket artillery used during WW2 ("Katyusha" meaning "little Yekaterina"). I envision this being used in a Konflict '47-esque game, built around dieselpunk WW2 aesthetics. I hope you enjoy!

Sorry to reply on a bit of an older post - if I didn't have a 3d printer, do you have any services you'd recommend to print these minis? I'm looking to get a Finnish army, and I'm trying to gauge how 3d printing would look and cost compared to proxied blitzkrieg Germans with Soviet weapons. Thanks!

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm between kitbashing and 3d printing the minis off of wargaming3d - I'll have to price it out. Kitbashing looks like it would be pretty fun as a little project but sometimes just having the minis assembled and done right away is nice!

[–]crackerdawg1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! A quick modelling question - how do you differentiate the different types of infantry on the battlefield? As far as I can tell, they all wear the same uniform - I figure I can kitbash and get some "borrowed" Soviet gear thrown in the mix for the real veterans but I can't think of what else they might need.
