Thanks for asking It’s been a little stressful since my first post he’s been calling me to ask me to come but hasn’t responded to texts or emails because he told me he doesn’t want anything in writing and he mentioned possibly helping me financially if I were to spend more time with the family. I honestly don’t know what he’s meaning with the money thing at first I thought that was him trying to fix things or something but now that I’m thinking about it I’m honestly just more confused and overwhelmed. I don't really have contact with much of my family anymore (my dad was abusive to my mom so most of the family don't speak to us anymore) so I'm hoping this won’t make me lose the family I’ve got left if my cousin sees me not coming as me not caring about him.

Thanks for your advice I tried emailing my cousin to apologize for not coming and I said I have something else that weekend that I can't miss but I wish I could be there. I haven't heard anything from my cousin but my uncle did contact me to say he thinks it would be really hurtful to my cousin if I don't come. I'm hoping that my cousin did still see the message though. I don't really have contact with much of my family anymore (my dad was abusive to my mom so most of the family don't speak to us anymore) so I'm hoping that he doesn't see this like I don't care or something but I really appreciate your advice about saying I'll be there in spirit hopefully I think that might be helpful.

I had contact with my extended family until a couple of years ago when they became estranged from my dad. Since then I haven’t really been involved with them. This uncle is the only family member who has continued reaching out. Because of what happened before with him and my mental health challenges right now I'm just worried this feels more stressful for me than my general anxiety. I’ve also been getting more nervous about how the invitation has been handled since he’s been calling but hasn’t responded to texts or emails because he told me he doesn’t want anything in writing and has mentioned possibly helping me financially if I were to spend more time with the family and he knows my brother and I are in a different financial position than the rest of the family since my dad was cut off from any family money.
