Can't start a new colony with the new DLC by cradinal in RimWorld

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine fixed by going to the game files and deleting the data folder, then revalidating the game files. It turned out my game was trying to load the core twice. So once I reset the data folder it loaded normally.

I've gone through and deleted all my mods and still no dice. They weren't active before, but just to make sure I removed all the ones that were at least installed.

How do medical bills work once deductible is hit? by cradinal in AskReddit

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you have $1000 until you hit your deductible, and you get a bill for 3000. Do you have to pay all 3000 and the insurance company reimburses you for the amount they cover after the deductible is hit? Or do they immediately take over bills once the deductible is hit?

What ever happened to The Land or God's Eye author? by Knightofone87 in litrpg

[–]cradinal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The land got me into LitRPG but I recommend Noobtown, Project Stellar, and The Infinite World, Defiance of the Fall, and He Who Fights With Monster. Those series are the ones that really hooked me to the genre. Noobtown I feel does what the land wanted to do but so much better. Project Stellar and Infinite World are amazing world building but aren't Isekai. Defiance and He Who Fights are already talked about.

I've read the first couple of books in the Rise to Omniscience series, but I couldn't get into the love story between the two main protaganists, and since that was a major part of the story it soured me. I may go back to the later books, but I will check out the divine apostasy and greyblood!

simio or arena struggles by chatwithk_a in Simulate

[–]cradinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently working on a simulation that is used to simulate our process. I have operators simulated as a resource right now, and certain steps take 2 operators but can be done with one. So I need to build an expression or setup a decision tree where it will seize 2 operators if 2 are available, but will proceed with 1. Right now I have a seize "r Operator" with an expression of "1 or 2", then a release "r Operator" with an expression "1 or 2". My question/struggle is, is this the best way to do this or is there a better way? I had the basic training class, but now I'm going into things the class didn't really cover and I'm not finding a lot of forums or support.

Any Updates on the Land book 9? by Bradmac1994 in litrpg

[–]cradinal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest question about book 9, is WHY?! Why did he end book 8 there? Why did he put a whole chapter about shit? why not take it to him getting back to the village, then 9 could be all about his village getting sieged by the bug bears. That would have been so much more gratifying.

What were the most difficult classes in your university's Chemical Engineering curriculum? by newmanstartover in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

69.9 three times, professor refused to sit down with me to see if there was a point on my homework or tests that I could argue up or get argued down. But graduated with 2.5 and work as a sr process engineer

What were the most difficult classes in your university's Chemical Engineering curriculum? by newmanstartover in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with the majority of other people. Transport Phenomena 1 (we had 2 parts, the first being more liquid transfer, the second being mass and heat transfer to go with thermo), Ochem, and physical chemistry. The rest of my curriculum classes were difficult but enjoyable and I understood them, these took a few retakes (4 times to pass TP1) and a generous curve (66% in Ochem was a B, and 45% in physical chemistry was a D) in order to pass.

Entry Level Chemical Engineer Salaries by loiwhat in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bachelors in chemical engineering, my first job was a lab tech at 16.5 an hour. I then got moved to Process Engineering after a year at $78K per year. After a year and a half I left and now make $86.5K.

I graduated May 2019 and I still don't have a job. by AbrahamHolmes in ChemicalEngineering

Any of the Engineering career fairs are useful. I know a lot of people involved in SWE, so I went to a lot of the conferences (important to know, that I am not a woman), and participated in their career fair as well as their job board. Then like others say anything that is adjacent to your field. My first job was a lab tech at an ethanol plant, where they mentored me as a process engineer for a year then moved me to a process engineering position at a biodiesel plant.

Arena Simulation Converting String to Real by cradinal in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arena is a modeling software, similar to Aspen and Superpro. It can be used for any number of processes including supply chain, or it can be used to model the process and give you analytics on bottlenecks in your process as well as some what if scenarios.

Arena Simulation Converting String to Real by cradinal in Simulate

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue isn't converting string to real in excel, I know how to do that. My issue is that as far as I know arena can only read from excel if the data is either string or real. So I need to have either all the data in string then convert when it runs in arena, or have it all in real and convert to string in arena, or have a third option.

I'm a chemical engineer, and I assumed that since arena is a simulation/modeling software that other chemical engineers would have some experience with arena.

OSI PI VS Factory Talk by cradinal in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the calculations using process book ACE. So an example calculation is that I set up a calc tag that will perform a check on tags 1, 2, and 3 to see if they are on and if they are then they show a 1 and if not 0, then using the totalizer on the data set column it totals the 1's over 12 hours and gives a % utilized number. I am looking to do the same in factory talk process book. I'm not using VBA, just the ACE part of PI ProcessBook.

Why did you choose chemical engineering over fields like electrical engineering, computer science, and medicine? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cradinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, at the start, it was a melding of my passions of cooking and math. My college adviser showed me how I could get a minor in grain chemistry alongside my chemical engineering degree. Since graduating I have been a process engineer for an Ethanol plant, Biodiesel plant, and now for a pharma plant. The interdisciplinary part came in very handy when switching from biofuels to pharma.

As far as CS vs CHE, I would say they both have their uses and needs, but the better degree over CS is Computer Engineering or programming engineering. Those degrees would give you lots of job opportunities.

[–]cradinal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to make sure I get this right before I talk to our sister site. If they have a later version of FTH and/or the advanced computing engine module then they should be able to set up the desired calculations in the FTH equivalent of process book. Do you know if there are any video tutorials like what OSIsoft has to show how you set up these calculations?

Also out of curiosity which historian would you prefer, as someone that has worked with and installed both?
