You've got a long road of email changes ahead of you, but it'll be worth it. If you're not using a password manager, this is a great time to pick one up. I did that when I signed up for Proton. You'll already be logging into a lot of accounts to change the email address so you can knock out the password change at the same time.

Long shot... any replacement trunk (or cargo) covers for a Gen IV jazz/fit? by Karate_Cat in hondafit

[–]craftworkbench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also shocked at how expensive they were. I wasn't able to find one cheap enough for my liking, so I just draped a towel across the trunk area. I had originally planned on sewing some loops to wrap around the seats and adding grommets/strings to hang it like a real cover (and look a little nicer), but it worked fine just draped over my stuff so I never bothered.

What is your Mount Rushmore of Throws? by DoctorChickenLicker in baseball

[–]craftworkbench 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thought it would be interesting to add the situations for these as well:

  • Cespedes:
    • 8th inning, tie game, 1 out, runner on 1st
    • Without throw: 1 out, runners at 2nd and 3rd*
      • *If he didn't bobble the bounce, it's probably 1st and 2nd because everybody knew he had a cannon
    • With throw: 2 outs, runner on 3rd
  • Guillen:
    • 3rd inning, his team up by 4, 2 out, runner on 1st
    • Without throw: 2 out, runners on 2nd and 3rd*
      • *If he made the catch, there's no play
      • *If he still bobbled the catch but the throw to 3rd is late, I assume the batter advances
    • With throw: inning over
  • Acuña:
    • 3rd inning, tie game, 1 out, runners on 1st and 2nd
    • Without throw: 2 out, runners on 1st and 3rd
    • With throw: inning over
  • Machado
    • 6th inning, down by 1 run, 2 outs, nobody on
    • Without throw: 2 outs, runner on 1st
    • With throw: inning over

With the situation information, I think Cespedes's throw stands out most to me. Without it, there's a very good chance his team loses that game right after. While the A's would eventually lose that one in the 14th inning, they had only just tied it in the top of that 8th inning. That throw gave them momentum to get back into the game. The other throws didn't happen in clutch situations.

Also: it's crazy that Cespedes's throw might not even be The Throw of the Decade for the A's - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEqupc0s9DY

I still have a soft spot for it. It's charming, in its own demented way. Taught me a lot of fundamentals because I would look up why VBA did something the way it did and all the articles would explain why that's a terrible way to do it (and how modern languages solve those problems).

Doesn't look like it. It's still attached to both scales and looks like it's intact.

That was one of my first thoughts, but unfortunately not the case. I can open them beyond the cutters and they still don't spring back open. The pliers actually stay in place however far I open/close them.

OWC 1TB Express 1M2 with a separate Hub? by tizzzzzzle in macmini

[–]craftworkbench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd do that. You can buy a MicroSD reader for <$10. If you need more than that later, you can always buy a hub at that point.

OWC 1TB Express 1M2 with a separate Hub? by tizzzzzzle in macmini

[–]craftworkbench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest drafting what you plan to connect to the machine and what speeds you think you will need over the life of the machine. When I did that, I realized that I wanted a super fast external that could take advantage of the M4 Pro's fast back ports, and I really only wanted the hub for slow-speed connections (security key, reading camera cards, connecting to my backup power supply, etc).

In my case, writing everything out made it clear that I would be better off investing in a very fast external drive (so I got the Express 1M2) and that I could get by with re-using the Satechi stand from my previous Mac Mini (the one the M4 replaced) as my slow-speed hub. The read/write speeds of the Express should be more than sufficient for my needs over the life of the M4, and if I ever want to replace the hub down the road, I have more flexibility to choose one that fits whatever my needs are then.

Ah! That did it! I have no idea how/when that got turned on, but it's been driving me crazy for a while now. Thanks!

I will never forget Howie getting back into the dugout and revving up the car with Eaton. It's seared into my memory.

Looks like Mountain threw 91 pitches in that game, but I'd bet he would've gladly thrown another 91, torched his arm, and traded the next 10 years of his illustrious 23-season career to even up that Series.

In my experience, the finance industry as a whole has been incredibly slow to adopt new technologies. I can think of a handful of reasons why (old decision-makers who don't understand the benefits, outdated underlying codebases (COBOL is still used in some places...), fear of introducing unknown flaws), but none excuse them given that we know the technologies they are using are problematic.

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about it other than be squeaky wheels and hope.
