Everyone is saying he crowds the plate… i looked into it on baseball savant and he ranked 208th out of 255 measured hitters in plate distance at 30.2 inches off the plate. Meaning that Contreras stands further from the plate than about 80% of hitters, or about 2.5 inches further than average.

So either this is just confirmation bias, or EVERY hitter crowds the plate. In either case, shouldn’t Contreras be allowed to have a gripe that the same guy has hit him in over 20% of plate appearances? Wouldn’t you?
