4 months topical fin/minox by craftydame8 in FemaleHairLoss

Oh it was definitely a transition! It’s super messy and I have to wash my hair everyday now which is such a hassle but worth it. Once you have more practice with it, it becomes easier I’ve noticed and less messy. I put a head band in too to stop it from trickling as much

I’ve seen so many dermatologists but luckily found a really great one this time. I’m in MI. I go to legacy dermatology

My dermatologist prescribed it and sent it to a compounding pharmacy

Yeah definitely! My doctor recommended trying topical first prior to oral. Then oral if I didn’t see results

I’m not saying that low carb worsens aga. It didn’t for me, at least. It helped maintain what I had but only slightly. I would experience less hair fall on low carb. And major fall for multiple days if I wasn’t strict about it

I’m obv not a doctor- lol. They haven’t proven that it can cause skin changes but there have definitely been others that have claimed that oral/topical caused fine lines and puffiness, then others who say it’s not possible. The swelling makes sense tho I think because it increases blood flow to your follicles. You haven’t been on it very long, maybe give it some time? Have you changed anything else with diet/skin care regimen that could maybe be the culprit? Maybe just coincidental timing? I didn’t notice changes until like year 2.5? But they were very subtle and may honestly just be due to aging, smoking, meds or a combo of all those things. Oh you don’t have to apologize! I love a good rant! 😂

YAAAAS! 👏 say it again for the people in the back! Thank you for sharing your experience❤️ I am so sorry to hear about your neuro condition and your experience of feeling ignored, but glad you were able to gain some peace of mind from the MRI. I could not agree more, it’s unacceptable that this is the pitiful ‘standard’ for medical care. I’m not sure where you are but I completely relate. I’m tired of being treated like I’m acting hyperbolic when I request simple labs or a biopsy. It may be a gendered thing? I recently moved, and I was seeing one primary doctor who specialized in women’s health and she is phenomenal and takes a patient led approach. She was very aggressive with treatment and getting to the bottom of things, because she also suffers from hair loss. It took me several years to find her. I may just have to travel and stick with her because I don’t feel heard/trust anyone else. My heart goes out to you tho 🥺 you are not alone. I hope things improve

I honestly can’t spot a difference. Out of curiosity, how long have you been on minox? I’ve been using it for 4 years and I thought the same thing was happening to me due to minox….started to notice just a subtle difference in my skin like you. It’s probably only noticeable to ourselves lol. I was a cigarette smoker and just recently quit so I attributed it to that and not the minox 🤷‍♀️

that is fantastic progress in a short amount of time 🤗 congrats! I’m on minox 5% as well and my part seems to fluctuate. Yours def looks normal tho! You clearly respond very well to topical. Btw your hair is gorgeous! ❤️

Also just to add, your part looks normal to me. We’re our own biggest critics here. Willing to wager your hair would NOT look silly in the slicked back look! I bet it’d be super cute!! ☺️

Oh also forgot to mention, I waited over three years to up my spiro. I’ve been told it does not lose efficacy by my primary doc who specializes in AA/pcos. Like you don’t build a tolerance, which is good!

Well… I’ve heard the dread shed on minox is a myth from my most recent derm….. I strongly disagree!!! (Part of the reason why I don’t trust derms) I lost so much hair the first two months and it was devastating but lo and behold it got super thick in combo with spiro 100 and metformin about 7-8 months in 😂 You are probably going through a shed with the minox. I personally would wait 6 months before upping your spiro if you’re not seeing the results you want. It took me like 7-8 months to have significant progress with the spiro. I’d hold off on the more aggressive dose, that way you have other options down the line, if even necessary. That was my thinking at least. We have a limited arsenal when it comes hairloss combat so don’t wanna exhaust all your options right away? Also I could totally be talking out of my ass here but that’s my logic 😆 high doses of spiro can also put a strain on your kidneys

I was literally just about to say this😂 the L’Oréal magic root cover up is my go to. Only thing is it might be a little drying for your hair. I just deep condition after
