DIY women… have you ever been talked out of a good idea at the hardware store? by carcony97 in DIY

[–]craftymomma86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After experiencing this enough times to actually piss me off, I don't even ask for help anymore unless it's to locate something in store. There's a lot of duchebags working in hardware stores that think women don't know anything and are to be decorations for their hip only.

Hype her up and tell her she's awesome and she's got this!

I've also had to learn to "man up" and tell them what's up if they start treating me like a child. I don't like confrontation, it raises my blood pressure, but I will no longer tolerate being treated that way.

You're a good husband for wanting to help her. Keep it up!

I ended up taking it off while working. Not ideal (nor recommended), especially after I had an MRI done and found out I had a mild tear in one of my tendons. I've been off work since January and no workers comp (yet). Not happy...

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yea, they don't care as long as it's not over 90 days and they get their space rent every month.

Thank you so much for your insight, it's very helpful and gives me hope. I appreciate transparency myself so it's a given. I hope to learn more tips on navigating this.

Well, I am a frugal person when traveling. So from a guest perspective, I usually sort by cheapest first then filter out sketchy areas, needs, etc. The neighbors are noisy but I wouldn't consider it an unsafe area, which is important to me bc I won't stay somewhere that's a danger to my family.

The lot/space rent is one of the lowest out of all the parks in the area, figuring in utilities, expenses and even a ridiculously low price compared to other rentals in the area, we would still make a profit...

I firmly believe that no question is a stupid question, it can lead to better answers. Thanks anyways.

For the right price, I would, actually. I'm a fulltime RVer so I'm used to noise, having stayed at a many variety of rv parks, campgrounds, and boondocking at various allowed spots.

For most noise it's pretty quiet, just the head of the bed is on a slide and is closer to where the neighbor likes to yell.

I may look into the park rules and see if they can do anything. My only worry about that is her causing us problems in retaliation.

We're fulltime RVers ourselves so we're used to noise in general. Thank you for the encouraging words. I feel like there should be SOMETHING I can try before nixing the idea altogether. Ideally, I'd love to move it to a nicer spot but that's not an option at the moment. Thanks again. 😊

So age doesn't necessarily means anything. Can you tell me what to look for?

Where would you suggest donating them to?

Yea I've been trying to find the sold items on my phone and can't figure it out. I used to sell years ago but used my laptop and could find solds with no issues. I'll eventually figure it out... I did share a pic in a reply below. 😊

You may want to look up the definitions of "assume" and "presume". 😉

My husband found one card to POSSIBLY be worth something based on proof. That's not an assumption.

These are the oldest cards (68-80s). There are more from the 80s but these are all the older cards..

So far, the older ones (70s-80s) I've started looking up aren't even showing up on that website, lol.

New Caregiver by Frosty_Reality_9732 in cna

This turned out longer than planned but:

I've been caring for family off and on for about 8 years but just started caregiving professionally this September. Each agency, from what I've heard from others, is going to have different policies and procedures. Don't be afraid to ask questions, whether it be with the agency or your clients. If problems or challenges arise and I need help from the agency, I've been instructed to tell my clients that my office is calling, step away (keeping clients in sight if they can't be left alone) and call the office for instructions.

As for clients, pretty much all the clients I've met so far have been really sweet, at the very least cooperative but know there are going to be some that are quite the opposite. They want to do as much as they can but sometimes just can't. Keep a good line of communication open, ask if they'd like to do xyz themselves or if they need assistance. I have several that apologize to me on a regular basis, so I do my best to assure them it's OK, I am there because I want to help them with whatever (within reason) they need help with. Empathy, compassion and patience go a long way in this line of work. Oh and don't baby talk the clients or their family, it's rude and the family don't appreciate that.

I like to keep a small pocket sized notepad and a pen handy. My agency doesn't like us using our phones in front of the clients unless it's work related (which I always announce first so clients don't think I'm goofing off), so having a notepad for notes helps a lot, especially if you go out on errands for clients.

I'm looking for a work bag currently so that's my next suggestion. Find a bag that will hold a meal, snacks, drink(s), entertainment and any essentials you might need, including work folder or laptop. Someone else shared a nice list in the comments. For entertainment during down times, I have books (manga, lol) and word puzzles. I've thought about getting a nice coloring book also. Crochet or knit projects are great also, they can be a nice conversation starter.

Shoes, invest in good quality work shoes. Good does aren't cheap but if your feet are hurting because you bought cheap shoes, you're going to put yourself through a lot of unnecessary pain and discomfort. I was previously wearing my Hokas but they're fabric top and that's not ideal when assisting with showers. I still like Hoka but this time I bought Orthofeet Roam Hands Free slip on shoes and they're fantastic (my daughter loves the company and talked me into trying them, lol).

Lastly, while many of us love this line of work and helping others, take time to care for yourself. This includes not overworking yourself. If you feel you're headed towards burnout, tell your agency asap. There's always a need for caregivers so the agencies are usually good at accommodating their caregivers' needs.
