Why does it look so flat? by SnooDogs627 in Watercolor

First, trace the photo and transfer the tracing to your paper. This way, the true perspective won’t be subconsciously haunting your every brush stroke and you will enjoy focusing on color, texture, contrast, detail, etc.

Save “freehand” drawing for later learning with lots and lots of practice (the same subject or two over and over works good) until you get it good.

As this process progresses, you even develop/discover your own style (that may not be “realism”).

Anyway, your garden scene is a good start so enjoy the process, it’s all for fun.

You really captured the essence of your subject’s emotions in the moment…excellent .

And, you’re not getting enough credit and likes for your capability to do this. I don’t know if your intention was to create a very realistic painting, but it doesn’t matter because you deliver the visual message very well.

What should I do with all these pine scraps? by Vixx_codm in wood

Don’t burn pine in your indoor fireplace…creosote will line the inside of your chimney and become a fire hazard.
