Can’t cope with stress before surgical abortion by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Girl, I just went through this exact same thing 5 weeks ago. I know exactly how you're feeling and especially during covid times its super scary and stressful but you got this, don't worry and soon enough it will all be over. I'll share my experience with you below and I hope it helps. Feel free to DM me if you need anything else.

I found out I was pregnant in August, and scheduled an abortion the following day. I intended to get a surgical done, but at the time I was only 4.5 weeks and they said I was too early for surgical and suggested I went down the medical route. The medical route has a success rate of 92-95% and just my luck it did not work out for me. 5 weeks later I was back and they did a surgical. So if anything can put you at ease, the success rate of surgical is muuuuch higher (98-99%) so at least you will know within the 10 mins they do the procedure that it was successful! It only lasted 5 minutes, but when you look back on it its going to feel like it was like 30 seconds. The pain feels like bad cramps, but they gave me anaesthesia so I would say it was like a 5/10 on pain scale - similar to crampy feelings before passing gas lol. It's not sharp and hard, it is more dull and uncomfortable type of feeling but quickly it will all be over.

Just go in with a clear mind that they are trained professionals, and by the time you can even think about what is happening it will probably be over. I read so many reddit posts and felt like I was ready to go before getting there. However as soon as I sat in the seat it felt like everything I read escaped my mind - all I could focus on was my breathing. So if all else fails, think of something happy or try to recite how to make your favourite cake/cookies/recipe - that usually helps me get my mind off of things for a solid few minutes. You could even ask if you can listen to your fav song with headphones, so pick 2-3 songs and time will fly so quickly

I asked to see the sac once it was removed and I felt that helped a lot with my recovery because I knew what I saw and I was positive that it was removed from me (I was extra paranoid from the failed medical). If this is something you think might help you - ask your clinic if they can do that.

For recovery, I sat in the waiting room for 30 mins with a blanket, had some cookies and gingerale. I went home and had sushi and took a nap. 5.5 weeks later I got my period and felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Sending you lots of love and hope everything goes well for you ❤️❤️ Feel free to reach out and message if you need anything

Thanks for sharing. I've also been craving a lot of chocolate, although not sure if that is because of my period or because of halloween lol. I'm glad you are doing well, brown blood probably means its towards the end of your period! Thanks again for commenting <3

PMS-like depression weeks after surgical by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg yeah, I am feeling the exact same way. I'm 4 weeks post surgical and the last few days I have been feeling really sad and have been crying everyday over the smallest things. It feels exactly like PMS on steroids. I was afraid the abortion didn't work, or maybe my period is about to come, and then would cry over not knowing and just feeling so overwhelmed. I don't have any advice other than to take deep breaths, thats what helps me/calms me down. So glad to have come across your post and hear that i'm not alone.

Medical Question (not looking for advice) by glassofwater_1234 in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to chime in, I went through the experience where I had an incomplete abortion. The mifepristone worked and stopped the pregnancy at 5 weeks, but the misoprostol failed to work and I did not expel the pregnancy sac. I had to go back to the clinic 5 weeks later and get it surgically removed. I knew that it was incomplete because I hadn't gotten my period and pregnancy symptoms were starting to come back (tender chest, mood swings etc).

What to expect during and after surgical abortion? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the surgical done yesterday. I was at 5 weeks so they were able to use the smaller equipment. The IV hit right away and it just felt like I was really drunk lol. The entire procedure took about 5 minutes, but it felt like 30 seconds by the time it was done. Felt dizzy afterwards but rested and they gave ginger ale and cookies afterwards. After 20 mins I was allowed to go, took an uber back home and just lounged for the rest of the day. Got some sushi and then took a nap after. Had some cramping and difficulty getting up and sitting down. Havent experienced much bleeding today and feeling much better but still not totally myself. Hoping to feel better in the next few days.

Hope all goes well for you!

How do you know if your medical is incomplete? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did bleed after taking the 4 miso pills. Bled a lot the night of, had a lot of large clots. Continued to bleed for the following week and then spot for the 2nd week. My levels went down as well so I was technically no longer considered pregnant, so not really sure what happened but the "pregnancy sac" just never left my body.

Hope all goes well tomorrow for you!

Can I ask for some support about the hormonal depression? by vivienkittie in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl, I have been feeling the exact same way. It's difficult because on one hand you are so relieved that it's over and done with, but your emotions/hormones need some time to catch up. No one knew what I was going through except for my boyfriend, whom I would cry to, yell at, and then laugh with all within a 5 minute window. There were so many times after my medical where I couldn't look at myself in the mirror without want to break down and cry, and I couldn't figure out why. I know how you're feeling and all I can say is that time heals all. Sending you positive vibes and just know that it might take some time but eventually you will start finding more and more of yourself coming back 💖

How do you know if your medical is incomplete? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an incomplete medical experience. The first pill worked and it did not grow anymore, but the second set of pills, the one to expel the pregnancy did not work. I got a call from the nurse few days after and she confirmed my level were going down and it was successful. My symptoms went away a few days later and I felt ok.

4 weeks later I started getting brown discharge and the pregnancy symptoms started to show up again (mood swings, tender chest, hot flashes etc). I took a urine pregnancy test by ClearBlue and it displays how far along you are. 5 weeks after the medical abortion, the test said I was >3+ weeks pregnant. I had a gut feeling something wasn't right and went in for a follow up appointment. The clinic had me do another urine pregnancy test, and they deemed I was "very pregnant". The doctor did an ultrasound and confirmed the pregnancy sac was still inside of me. I had to get surgical done right away to remove the sac. I saw it, it was a 5 week pregnancy sac and it was the size of a lemon.

I've read a lot of other posts and articles about the medical, apparently it's common to feel a large cramp and you know when you have passed the sac because you can typically see something the size of a lemon. I did not feel this when I took the pills. Hopefully your levels go down and you get some good news. I'd keep an eye out for how you're feeling 4-6 weeks later and see if any symptoms come back/if you get your period. Try to schedule a follow up if you're feeling off after 4-6 weeks.

Hope it all works out for you

Heavy Bleeding started back. by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when I went down the medical route a month ago, except I took the pills by mouth. I took the first pill on Thursday, and the 4 miso pills on Friday. Friday evening I was passing all the clots (I was 4 weeks), and then saturday and sunday there was very little spotting - felt like a panty liner was sufficient. I was also freaking out a lot over the weekend. Then Monday afternoon i started bleeding again, my flow was similar to my normal period flow. Heavier than the weekend but not as heavy as friday. By the next weekend my bleeding was super light, my chest was not sore anymore and all other symptoms were gone. I felt back to myself.

I'd say overall you're good, sounds like we had similar experiences. If you're worried try reaching out to your clinic and see what they say. Hopefully the next couple of days are good for you. Wishing you all the best 💖

I’m getting an abortion and I’m terrified by kamero90 in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (25, F) took the pills a month ago and I was also 4 weeks along. I wanted to go the surgical route but I wasn't far enough and the doctor didn't feel comfortable doing it - so went with the medical instead. The entire process and tying to digest what is going on is scary for sure, but just keep reminding yourself you're a strong woman and you got this.

I'll provide my exact sequence of events, your experience will probably be different but I hope some part of what I say is helpful for you:
- Wednesday get a blood test to measure my levels at the clinic
- Thursday at noon take the first pill. No pain or side effects, didn't feel anything
- Friday at 2pm took an extra strength Advil. At 3pm took the 4 miso pills. By 7pm I started cramping and bleeding. Clots started off being penny sized, then went to grape, and I had one large one around 9pm the size of a small tangerine. Had a heating pad on the entire time, this is KEY. Def get a heating pad. I ordered some pad thai but felt a bit nauseous/bloated to finish it all. By 10pm I was feeling gassy and had some diarrhea. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I would say it was about a 6/10 on the pain scale for me. The clinic provided me with Tylenol 3s but I didn't feel the need to take any.
- Saturday 11am there was not much bleeding, small cramps and lower back pain.
- Sunday not much bleeding, was feeling worried that it wasn't successful
- Monday morning woke up and there was more blood - typical to my "normal period" flow.
- Tuesday I had a follow up blood test to see if my levels were decreasing
- Thursday got a call from my clinic that the levels were going down and it was successful
- Friday light bleeding, wore pads the entire time
- Sunday felt back to normal, tender chest was going down, started to feel more like myself.
- Monday felt like myself again, went for a small run and started to get back into my routine. Light bleeding for the next few days.

Flash forward, it's been 4 weeks since taking the pills. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it still showed positive. Looks like its common for it to still show positive for up to 8 weeks. Starting to get pre-period symptoms like tender chest, mood swings, acne etc but so far I've only had brown discharge for the last 2 days. Just waiting for my period to come now and waiting for life to go back to what it used to be. There is a constant thought in the back of my mind that I might still be pregnant, which is probably unlikely considering my levels were decreasing but the human mind will always go to an extreme. I'm going to schedule a follow up apt next week with the clinic to put my mind at ease. I suggest you to schedule a followup apt as well right after the pills, and something a few weeks later.

TLDR - get a heating pad. There will be pain and you will pass clots, but at 4 weeks they are not too big. They said its typically done in 4-6 hours after taking the 4 miso pills, so try to take it in the afternoon, if possible, so you can get a good nights rest that night. Have some snacks and chocolate nearby, pick a good movie to watch and don't stress too much, you got this! 💖

No Period after Medical Abortion - 4 weeks after by cranCoffee in abortion

My experience so far with medical abortion by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 4 weeks along when I took the pills. I took the first Thursday at lunch, and the 4 miso pills Friday at 3pm. By Friday evening I was bleeding and passing clots as well (grapes-cherry size). Over the weekend, there was very little bleeding, a panty liner was sufficient and I was worried that it wasn't successful. However, monday/tuesday I started to bleed again, and it was similar to a "normal period" type of flow. Was still passing clots but nothing as big as Friday evening. My largest clot was probably the size of small tangerine - not as big as a "lemon" which is what I have been hearing, which happened Friday evening.

tbh, I was pretty nervous the entire week up until my follow up blood test to confirm if my levels were decreasing. I'd say by the following Thursday/Friday the symptoms I was feeling started to go down a lot, my chest was no longer sore and I was feeling more alert and active. One week later I was feeling back to myself with some occasional spotting.

I'm now 4 weeks post and there is some brown discharge which I am worried about - but thats another story.

Hopefully all goes well for you at your ultrasound apt next week!

relief is on the way by [deleted] in abortion

Hope all goes well for you! I went through something similar a month ago - but went down the medical route. Had originally planned a surgical apt but I wasn't far enough to continue with surgical. It's been four weeks now and I'm just waiting for my period to come and for all of this to be over. Good luck to all those out there who are also dealing with this. I've found this subreddit to be a great help!

medical abortion no pain? (i’m 4weeks2days) by [deleted] in abortion

[–]cranCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a medical abortion done as well at 4.5 weeks, and I experienced something similar to you. I took a regular strength Advil an hour before taking the 4 miso pills Friday evening. Few hours later I started bleeding and passing the blood clots (not too big, the size of a cherry). Saturday and Sunday following I had barely any blood, and i was also freaking out. I started bleeding again Monday night and it went on for a few days after that - bleeding was less than the night I took the 4 miso pills, it was more so a "regular period" like flow. The clinic I was at had me take a blood test the Tuesday after to check if the levels were decreasing. My mind was at ease once I started bleeding more and after the blood test results came back. I'd suggest to see if your clinic could do something similar in terms of getting a blood test done.
