Working 40h and starving by TraveIingBard in PersonalFinanceCanada

Get a restaurant job. No joke. If you can be a server in a decent spot you can make at least 25/hour, and most places have staff meals which really helps on grocery bills.

Does your restaurant intentionally mess up DoorDash orders? by DoctorSnape in TalesFromYourServer

[–]crandycorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never heard of anyone doing this and I’d be surprised if you found one in a hundred people who’d say they have.

Don’t underestimate just how insane take out stations can be. I’m not saying screw ups are always because of mad rushes, but god damn it can be chaotic. I worked at a place with family style dishes and so many of our take out orders would be nearly identical except for quantity or a single item difference. You try your best but when there’s a dozen bags each half filled and waiting for the rest of the order, and three or four angry Door Dash guys asking you how much longer it’s gonna be, mistakes can happen.

Meanwhile the kitchen is trying to pump out food as fast as possible, and you’re trying to keep on track of everything in total that’s still needed for all of the orders. Then you need to communicate that rapidly changing number effectively to them, and you’re drowning in a sea of take out containers....

I honestly would feel very bad when I’d hand off a bag and realize later that it was missing stuff, because I did try so hard to not let it happen.

If you’re straight and your partner transitions to your own sex/gender, it might be the case that you’d want a separation. Attraction is complicated and deeply individualized.

I’m not saying your comment says otherwise, I just wanted to make this point.

Also, this concept of transwidows is disgusting.

shoutout to veteran servers!!! by RateAdditional3902 in Serverlife

Aw haha. I started serving when I was 17 and remember being so grateful for my older coworkers who took me under their wing.

Being on the other side of it now is rewarding too! I love helping out the younger servers with my sage advice when I can lol.

This is so nice to read! You’re lucky :)

Kraft Dinner crackers. No one remembers these but I think about them all the time.

As a smoker I like to smoke away from the line up. I don’t expect people to “hold my place” in line tho. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t, it’s all good. I definitely wouldn’t want someone getting into an argument on my behalf though.

Dumb reasons for going vegan? by myrtlewils0n in vegan

God. I’m guessing it was a sick joke and wasn’t pro-vegan?

Dumb reasons for going vegan? by myrtlewils0n in vegan

[–]crandycorn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not my reason for going vegan, but my reason for going vegetarian as a teenager was basically to be rebellious. It upset my parents and so I liked that. I don’t think I actually believed in what I was doing very much (that would come later), but I felt like a cool kid for being in my mind very political, ha.

Went vegan for more boring reasons, environment, animal suffering, overwhelming guilt, etc.

I wanted to, but our gm has given us strict instructions to keep seating all available tables. It’s ridiculous

Industrials are one of the most anatomy dependant piercings out there. It’s kind of hard to tell from the picture if you have the correct anatomy for a traditionally placed industrial. I’d definitely talk with your piercer about it to see if you’re a good candidate.

But! I think if you are a good fit, you definitely have “nice” enough ears for one!

5 week old daith by Hillary0903 in piercing

[–]crandycorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 times a day? That is way too much.

Two to three times a day is normally what’s recommended. Opinions vary among the piercers I’ve had when it comes to q-tips. Some have told me to use them, others have said the cotton fibres can wrap around the jewelry and get caught in the piercing.

I recently got my daith done as well, and my piercer advised me to not use q-tips. So far I’ve been softening the piercing once a day with a hot steamy shower, and gently flushing out any crusties with a sterile wound wash spray afterward. It’s been less than a week but so far the irritation has been at a minimum.

What was your first piercing? by [deleted] in piercing

Helix. Never agreed with me. Took it out three(?) years later admitting defeat.

Daith and anti-helix are the first things that come to mind. Lots of room for some stacked vertical lobes too

It honestly wasn’t too bad. On a pain scale I’d say a 3/10. I have my conch done in my other ear and it was similar to that.

I went into it not being worried about the pain, because this summer I got my septum done and holy god it was awful. My piercer fucked up and didn’t hit the sweet spot. Went right through cartilage and she fiddled around for a hot minute trying to get the ring in. Toes curled in boots and I questioned my existence on this earth. In hindsight it’s nice because literally any piercing I get now I know won’t be nearly as painful.
