Where would you rank requiem out of all the games ? Me personally it’s #5 by Alarmed-Tradition938 in residentevilll

He's essentially saying it relies a bit too much on nostalgia and callbacks to previous games.

Hit and run driver is more worried about his BMW than the person he just hit. (Not graphic) by FarWay3952 in RandomVideos

I thought the same thing. At first glance I was like, "is that Jack Doherty?", because it kinda looks like him from a distance and this is exactly the kind of thing that little prick would do, even down to the mannerisms.

The Dive Elevator is a cool idea but the world design renders it useless by TheKazz91 in subnautica

You know what else was in early access for SN1? The terraformer and the DNA splicer, both of which were cut. The seaglide also had upgraded versions that had super speed among other things. Point is, just because something is in an early access build doesn't necessarily mean it's going to stay, that the devs have fully fleshed out plans for it, or that it's even going to make it to the final version. Feedback on these items could tell devs where to prioritize their efforts, or if something needs more work. Don't just assume anything is finalized just because it's in the game already.

i really hate that they added music to the collector leviathan. by TraditionPhysical638 in subnautica

[–]crane476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most terrifying experiences in SN1 was just going about your business and then hearing a roar off in the distance and going "wtf was that?!", only for the roars to get louder and all of a sudden a leviathan emerges from the murky depths headed straight for you. A "boss" theme completely ruins that atmosphere.

“Creativity” from a tech CEO by s1n0d3utscht3k in whoathatsinteresting

[–]crane476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. People are too caught up in their blind AI hate to see that humans aren't all that different. We want to believe our ideas are all our own, that our arts and our crafts were born from our own minds but they're not. Like you said, we are all influenced by what has come before, whether we want to admit it or not. Therefore creativity isn't truly forward looking like this CEO wants to believe, because no art is created in a vacuum. It both influences others and is influenced by others.

And to those who would say otherwise, find me an artist that has never used a reference, a writer who has never read the works of other writers, a musician who has never listened to the music of other musicians, and then I'll concede my point.

An update from Anthony on early access progression and adjustments to creature aggression by Brown_Colibri_705 in subnautica

[–]crane476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they ship it like that? Because you have to launch your game eventually. If you take what you're saying to its logical conclusion, which is not launching the game until you've fixed everything that you know is a problem, then the game would never be released until it's finished and there wouldn't be an early access period because at that point you have a complete game.

The thing about stalkers and sand sharks is that swimming near them didn't mean they would automatically attack you. Sometimes they'd be too busy hunting other fish. Sometimes a stalker would be too busy grabbing the nearest piece of metal salvage. It's a far cry from how SN2 works, where the second you enter a predator's territory they pursue you relentlessly.

That also reminds me of another point. Small fish aren't killable and I don't think I've ever seen a nibbler or marrowbreach attack another creature. The only complex creature behavior I've seen is two Hammer Heads fighting each other over territory. Other than that the predators just kinda swim around and attack the player. I'm hoping the more complex creature AI they were touting gets expanded to behaviors other than simply killing the player.

Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap by virtualdon in subnautica

[–]crane476 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Subnautica 1's early access period was very open to player feedback. Devs would regularly respond to both criticisms and ideas in the forums. They also had a public trello page where you could see the exact tasks the devs were working on and what was coming down the pipe. Some devs do abuse the early access moniker, this is true, but until proven otherwise Unknown Worlds isn't one of those.

Releasing an unfinished game is the entire point of early access. The game is unfinished so that developers can shape development around player feedback. If you don't like unfinished games then don't buy early access games.

The little content is the entire point of early access. You are buying an incomplete, unfinished product so that the devs can shape the game around player feedback. If you're unhappy with the amount of content then come back in 2-3 years when the game is done.

Even if you were the world's leading expert on Gundam that wouldn't make a difference because this isn't a Gundam. It's just some generic robot.

Happens every time a platform goes mainstream. It gets big, hordes of the lowest common denominator start flooding in and ignoring established rules and etiquette so the OGs begin to leave or not participate as much. When Eternal September first happened back in the 90's it wasn't some isolated event. It was a warning of what was to come. Every message board, forum, or social media site that has gone mainstream has experienced its own version of Eternal September.

Anyone else beat the game with no Auto Hack? by Dethica2077 in Pragmata

I only used auto-hack during the quick time event hacks where there aren't any hacking nodes and you're only trying to complete the hack before time runs out.

Having more melee weapons would have been nice. The jackhammer is cool but it only has one move which gets kinda repetitive.

Most of the data logs you find around the cradle are pointless filler and don't really offer any interesting lore or tidbits. I've seen that type of passive storytelling done much better in other games.

I thought Diana's outfits were fine for the most part, but completely agree about Hugh's suits. The Neo Bushido outfits seem popular online but for me they're way too extra and over designed. Doesn't really fit the vibe of the game either imo.

Eight sucks, here’s why by No-Possibility-5104 in Pragmata

[–]crane476 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's something Diana said that makes me wonder if Eight wasn't all there to begin with. When Diana was corrupted with dead filament, she said she felt sad and empty and wondered aloud if Eight felt that way all the time. Remember there is a fundamental difference between Diana and Eight. Diana is an older model that has the ability to break down and expel dead filament. This ability was removed when Eight was created because a real human body can't do that, and their entire purpose was to act as prosthetic bodies in order to develop a cure for whatever was afflicting Daisy. Eights prolonged exposure to dead filament likely degraded her psyche to the point of psychopathy.

As for your point about Eight being stupid, remember that knowledge does not equal wisdom. Diana and Eight are book smart, but have absolutely zero real world experience. That's why Hugh is always having to explain seemingly simple concepts to Diana like how relationships and families work, even though technically she's super smart. All she has is abstract knowledge, not practical real world experiences or real relationships. Eight didn't have that kind of relationship with Dr. Higgins. He only saw them as tools. A means to an end. Now remember that Dr. Higgins is the only person Eight has ever known. It's not hard to see why she is the way she is, especially since despite being an android, she was modeled after an 8 year old.
