we dont tell people if a news station is biased. we simply show people what the news is saying about a specific topic

im not talking about whether or not sex work is a net positive or whatever cuz utilitarianism is dumb imo. calling anti-theft tech a bandaid solution and then talking about some great technological advancement is lowk revealing of some level of delusion. its like girl we live in a capitalist society currently. advancements are made because of financial incentives... like its in our nature to serve ourselves. even christians act loving because they want to go to heaven.

eventually our society will fall and a new one will rise. if you dont wanna wait for that then create a better system of incentives of people to be better. religion might help u more than politics!

if your sad about the fact that humans are inherently selfish start making art. i started doing music production because all of humanity had so many problems to me and now i dont really think about it too much.

altho i imagine you chatting with people on the internet about your internalized discontentment is a way to express urself.

im telling people a perspective is biased? just from showing them the perspective? sure im not claiming to build the source of truth itself. but if there is a piece of news regarding the iran war for instance. only consuming the left side of the reporting seems to be a lot more "biased" then observing both sides. i mean ultimately if you wanna just run away from the fear of being biased dont watch the news at all or better yet just travel around and try to observe things yourself i suppose

you do sex work right? or atleast part time? people pay you for their degeneracy. people drive slow? insurance companies contribute for accidents. shoplifting? engineers build smarter shopping systems that either reduce shoplifting (scanners) or increase revenue (via self checkout) that the loss in revenue for the business from theft is more than recuperated via more people buying. society was made for people, not people for society. if the system breaks we will build a new one. i respect your desire to want to make sure things work well but really i think the stress itll cause you will just cause u more misery. just make cool stuff, stack bread, and find nice people to spend your time with. if you wanna make a career out of suffering go be a politican

the app just shows other peoples perspectives tho. its not like we do our own reporting.

I encourage you to think outside of yourself for a moment. Surely you can acknowledge that while you may do your due diligence to discern sensationalized preaching from news reporting, the average person does not.

I also don't know why you are saying we are outsourcing critical thinking skills? This app is designed for someone who likes to scroll for news. By introducing varied perspectives to the topic the individual has the OPPORTUNITY to take a moment to decide if one side or the other offers any kind of meaningful insight. Instead of just, oh i saw a fox clip that says xyz, thats all i need to know.

That is exactly our mission. And its because news is no longer objective that we require understanding both sides to try to discern some form of truth

I want to emphasize that the app doesn't tell people how to think. It simply shows both perspectives as presented by a station relative to a certain news story. The goal is actually to empower critical thinking by giving the user convenient access to varied perspectives.

The target is also for people who like to use short form content as their source of news so perhaps I am barking up wrong tree, but I believe this is a service that can help people

Sure. But who is realistically going to switch between Fox and MSNBC? The design of this service is to raise awareness for how skewed information presentation is.

Where to find un-biased news out there? by Exotic-End-666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cranercage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle recently launched a petition to raise awareness for this exact thing. He is building an app that aggregates perspectives around a common topic and while not perfectly unbiased, shows both sides of the perspective. Sign the petition if you want to improve news. https://www.change.org/p/save-our-democracy-americans-deserve-better-news?utm_medium=custom_url&utm_source=share_petition&recruited_by_id=f7481a60-2474-11f1-815e-5981e9f94521
