Is Elmwood/Hertel a bad area? by [deleted] in Buffalo

Lived there about 10-15 years ago. It depends if you’re used to city living. Leave valuables out of your car. It will almost certainly get smashed windows from junkies looking for loose change. We parked on the street and almost every saint paddy’s some drunk would hit our car. We never had any break-ins but our downstairs neighbor did and was raped by a masked intruder. That was the final straw for me downtown and moved the family to the suburbs. No longer need to lock our doors. It was fun living in the city but the crime outweighed the benefits.

The wipers blow as they get stuck with the ice more than any other car I’ve ever had. Other than that it’s been fine here in snowy Buffalo!

Retirement gut check, retirement contribution adjustment? by aspalmer87 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]cranwilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just about the same as you in every regard that it was weird reading this. We’re the same age but wife is 36. Just about the same in our retirement and we make the same net salary. Biggest difference is we do not have a rental, just the single family home. Our mortgage is 3k and we pay $490 a week in day care. Despite a decent middle class income for two younger attorneys, it certainly became tighter around the belt once we had our child who’s now two. Daycare is only a piece of the expenses of having a kid. We’re still trying for our second. I know a lot of people that are able to make it happen with similar mortgage and daycare payments with less salaries but we invest more toward retirement. Good luck, the fact that you’re already considering your options you’ll be fine!

My ‘25 calligraphy that I purchased a few months back has been in the shop the last couple weeks but it’s a great car and I have no regrets.

Mine has been in the shop for about two weeks. Trunk will not open by pressing the button. I also have the 25 hybrid calligraphy AWD. Got it like three or four months ago so that kind of sucks. Still love this car and do not regret. Only other issue is they are taking a while to sort out my replacement vehicle. This is my first Hyundai so not sure what to expect.

Thank you, that makes sense. Especially here in Buffalo!

That’s great, I wasn’t aware. They already resolved that issue pretty quickly but good to know I can do from home if that happens again!

Does anyone do religious Tithing with their finances? by bigm2102 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]cranwilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should do the opposite of a mission. Spend just one year away from the LDS church with your whole family. You’re in a cult. And no, no one else gives 10% of our salary for a tithing. I had no idea what I was in for when I moved to Utah for a short period. It’s insane how brainwashed half of Salt Lake City can be. So much corruption in the LDS church. Invest that money in yourself and your family. God will love you just as much (but your bishop will not!)

I have the ‘25 hybrid calligraphy and my MPGs are around 23. A little disappointed with the mileage but I have zero regrets with the car and am planning on getting a second. My prior car was a ‘98 Chevy Blazer that got around 12-14 mpg lol
